Turning 65?

VA healthcare, Medicare, and TRICARE For Life (TFL) can work together. The right mix depends on your needs.

Enroll in Medicare during your 7-month window (3 months before through 3 months after your birthday month) to avoid lifelong Part B penalties. VA doesn’t bill Medicare or TFL for care at VA facilities, and TFL activates automatically once you have Medicare Parts A & B.

Join us for the Pink & Purple Walk to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

On Friday, October 30, 2026, VA New York Harbor is hosting a walk to honor those affected by breast cancer and domestic violence. We’ll start at the Brooklyn Campus (800 Poly Place, Brooklyn, NY 11209), walk around the golf course, and finish back at the VA hospital.

Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m.
Walk starts at 10:00 a.m.

Whether you’re a Veteran, employee, family member, or community partner, you’re welcome to walk with us. Wear pink and/or purple to show your support.

Last week, Veterans, families, and staff marked 80 years of VA health care with BraveHearts at VA New York Harbor Healthcare System.

On Tuesday, at the St. Albans VA Medical Center and Wednesday, at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center, BraveHearts brought its herd to campus so Veterans could meet the horses and learn about equine-assisted services. The NYPD Ceremonial Band performed at the celebrations, which also included resource tables, music, and activities for Veterans and their families.

BraveHearts is the nation’s largest equine-assisted services program for Veterans. Founder Marge Gunnar has said the work began with her own horse: “Part of what helped me heal was my connection to my horses. I decided I wanted to use them to help others heal.”

Thank you to BraveHearts, the NYPD Ceremonial Band, and everyone who joined us in Queens and Brooklyn. Eight decades of care, and a reminder that healing still shows up in unexpected ways.

Come out and meet the herd 🇺🇸🐴

VA New York Harbor is celebrating 80 years of VA health care for Veterans — and we’re doing it with the country’s largest equine-assisted services program for Veterans.

BraveHearts (braveheartsriding) is bringing about 14 horses to our campuses next week. Veterans and family members are welcome to meet the horses, learn to groom and lead, hear Veteran testimonials, and learn about equine-assisted services and Trail to Zero. Food trucks will be on site.
