As the leaves turn, Chinese medicine asks us to turn inward too. Autumn is the season of the Lungs: our breath, our boundaries, our ability to let go. 🍂
Emotionally, Metal season is about release. Like the trees shedding their leaves, fall invites us to let go of what we no longer need.
When this season is out of balance, you might notice dry skin, a scratchy throat, feeling run down, or a lingering sadness. That’s information, not a flaw.

Your fall wellness ritual, the Chinese medicine way. 🧣

🌬️ Breathe deeply. Five minutes of slow belly breathing honors Lung season.

🍂 Let something go. Clear one drawer, one habit, one grudge. Metal season loves release.

For thousands of years, practitioners have recommended seasonal acupuncture to help the body move gracefully from one season to the next. Fall, with its shift toward cold, dry, and dark, is one of the most important transitions of the year.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal medicine uses plants, roots, seeds, flowers, and other natural substances to support health and address certain health concerns.
1. Promotes overall well-being Traditional Chinese herbal medicine aims to support the body’s balance and overall health. Some herbal preparations may help with specific symptoms, depending on their ingredients.
2. Supports digestive health Certain Chinese herbs are traditionally used to help manage digestive discomfort, bloating, nausea, and poor appetite.
3. May help manage stress and improve sleep Some herbal formulas are traditionally used to promote calmness and support sleep, although scientific evidence for their effectiveness varies.
4. May help relieve certain types of pain Some Chinese herbal preparations have been studied for their potential to reduce pain and inflammation in particular conditions, but results are mixed and depend on the formula.
5. Provides an individualized approach to treatment TCM practitioners select herbal combinations based on a person’s symptoms and traditional TCM assessment, rather than using the same formula for everyone.

Your body can’t heal while it thinks it’s under threat. 🧠

When stress becomes chronic, your nervous system can get stuck in “fight-or-flight.” Energy is pulled away from digestion, repair, sleep, and hormone balance and sent toward survival. Many people live this way for years without realizing it. They feel wired but tired, have trouble sleeping, or deal with digestive issues and tension that never quite resolves.

This is where acupuncture can help.

Acupuncture supports the parasympathetic “rest-and-digest” side of the nervous system. Studies have looked at its effects on heart rate variability, a marker of nervous system balance, and on the body’s stress-response pathways. Many patients notice the shift right on the table: slower breathing, heavy limbs, and a deep calm that’s sometimes hard to find anywhere else.

In Chinese medicine, we see regulation as the foundation. When the system feels safe, the body can return to what it does best, which is restoring and rebalancing.

Real recovery starts with calm. 🌿

The first question keeps you circling the problem.

The second gives your brain something concrete to do, and that sense of direction can help the stress response settle so clearer thinking comes back online.

That’s neuroplasticity in everyday terms: the brain strengthens the patterns we repeat. Every time you choose the next small step, you’re practicing a new way of responding.

At Acupuncture Tribeca, we’re exploring how acupuncture can support that process by helping the nervous system shift out of high alert, so new patterns have room to take hold.

Curious how acupuncture and neuroplasticity can work together? DM us or tap the link in bio to book a consultation.

With the Fall Equinox behind us, we’ve moved into the season of the Metal element. Each element connects the natural world to the body, mind, and spirit. Here’s what Metal governs:
🫁 Lungs + Large Intestine: The organs of taking in and letting go. The Lungs receive fresh breath; the Large Intestine releases what we no longer need.
🍂 Dryness: Autumn’s climate. You may notice it first in your nose, skin, and body hair, the tissues Metal nourishes.
🤍White + Pungent/Acrid: Metal’s color and flavor. Traditionally, pungent foods like ginger, garlic, onion, and radish, along with white foods like pears, daikon, cauliflower, and almonds, are used to support the Lungs this time of year.
A few ways to move into fall with intention:
• Breathe deeply and slowly each morning
• Favor warm, cooked, moistening foods over raw and cold
• Keep your neck and chest covered as the wind picks up
• Let something go: a habit, a clutter pile, a story you’ve outgrown
Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help your body transition smoothly between seasons.
