We too often focus solely on our front side (otherwise known as the anterior chain) and forget to pay attention to our back (or posterior chain).

It’s important to incorporate a balance into everything in life... including our therapeutic exercises.

In the above video and I are doing some Hamstring strengthening exercises using Valslides (the discs below our heals, which help with the gliding motion over the floor as we flex and extend our knees.

How the brain interacts with the different muscles in the body is one of the key components in having Positive Movement Experiences.⁣

We all are born with the same DNA that programs how the body moves, but these Movement Patterns as we call them, can break down over time due to injuries, poor posture, or sitting for long periods.⁣
⁣
As our muscles shorten over time, our body starts to move differently, and our brain changes its strategy, trying to take shortcuts to conserve energy.⁣
⁣
When our body starts to move differently, it’s going to affect and change the body’s alignment.⁣
⁣
At BIBC, we have developed different testing protocols where we can see what the body’s movement strategy is, and begin to reprogram it. Been working with my amazing colleague (who’s pushing me - literally and figuratively πŸ˜†) to better myself each day! We all need to work on ourselves and Dr. Diana and I have be training everyday to better ourselves so we can be even better for our patients!⁣

For this exercise:⁣
1️⃣ Lay down on a foam roller (in a vertical position) - Keep your core engaged and back against the foam roller⁣
2️⃣Using a resistance band just below your wrist (as not to injure them) - bring your arms up and over your head while keeping your thumbs pointing outward until you form the letter β€œY”⁣
3️⃣ Bring the arms back down while reducing the outward tension achieved when forming the upward letter β€œY”⁣
4️⃣ Repeat!! :)⁣
🌟Dr. Diana is pushing me around to help me better engage my core and test my stability (try doing the exercise without what’s called Perturbations first)!!⁣
(Try to start with 3 sets of 10 repetitions)⁣
