⚠️ The Skin Cancer You Can Barely See

👂 THIS LOOKED LIKE A SMALL SPOT... BUT IT WASN'T. ⚠️

This patient had previously undergone treatment for a basal cell carcinoma on his ear, and the area healed beautifully after reconstruction with a skin graft. ✅

But during a follow-up exam, another spot caught my attention.

At first glance, it looked small.

🔍 Looking more closely, the lesion extended beyond what was visible to the naked eye.
🔍 The borders were difficult to define.
🔍 This turned out to be a superficial basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that can spread wider than it appears on the surface.

That's why skin cancer can be tricky. What you see on the outside isn't always the full story.

After discussing all treatment options, we decided to remove the area and examine it under the microscope to ensure we found the true extent of the cancer.

This patient underwent Mohs surgery to remove a skin cancer. After the cancer was removed, a significant portion of the lip was affected and required careful reconstruction.

The goal is complete removal of the cancer with preservation of function and appearance, followed by careful reconstruction.
