The CBWCHC Staff Spotlight program is an employee recognition program that highlights specific examples of staff who exemplify the Health Center's values. We share stories of staff's experience with their everyday heroes through staff-to-staff nominations that take place throughout the year.

"Spot the Good. Share the Good." Great work happens everyday—let's make sure it's seen, shared, and celebrated!

Our most recent Staff Spotlight Awardee was registered nurse Anna Fong!

The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center was featured in an episode of Prism NYC that explores the history of New York City’s Chinatown and the different areas in which the Chinese American communities were underserved. Lack of social and healthcare services inspired community activists to put together the first Chinatown Health Fair, where a group of volunteers offered free health education and screenings to the medically underserved Chinese community of NYC. As pictured in this Prism NYC episode, the Chinatown Health Fair led to the formation of the Chinatown Health Clinic, which would become the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center of today, with over 50 years of history providing multilingual care to all.

Today, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center rallied with state legislators, patients, healthcare professionals, and community members on the steps of the Flushing Queens Public Library to urge Governer Hochul to sign legislation requiring insurance companies to cover diabetes screenings at a lower body mass index (BMI) threshold for at-risk populations such as Asian Americans, who see risk beginning at a lower body weight. We heard from various speakers from the Medical Society of the County of Queens, CAIPA, Rendr, Association of Chinese American Physicians, CAMS, KCS, KAFSC, CPC, AAFE, KAAQ, as well as the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center share the importance of early screening in the prevention of diabetes among New Yorkers.

Kaushal Challa, Chief Executive Officer at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center shared, “Early diabetes screening—especially in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, where risk begins at lower body weight—is vital to the prevention of diabetes. That’s why the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center supports the efforts of Senator John Liu and Assemblymember Ron Kim around S634B/A1206. Lowering the BMI threshold for diabetes screenings from 25 to 23 for everyone would increase access to affordable and appropriate preventative health care, allowing for early detection, better health outcomes, and also significant money saved in the healthcare system. We are proud to support legislation that aims to better the health of our communities.”
