🌱 Zhen Zhu: TCM’s Timeless Beauty Powder 🌱
Pearl powder, known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Zhen Zhu, has been used for centuries to promote radiant and healthy skin. While it can be taken internally, many people are drawn to its topical use for direct skin benefits.
When applied to the skin, pearl powder is valued for its rich content of amino acids, calcium, and nacre proteins. Research has shown that these components may help support skin regeneration. A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that pearl extract helped improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall skin smoothness. Other research suggests that the nacre in pearls can stimulate fibroblast activity, which plays a role in collagen production and skin repair.
In TCM, pearl powder is traditionally used to clear heat and calm the skin from within and on the surface. Many people use it topically to help brighten the complexion, soothe occasional redness, and support a more even skin tone over time.
How to use it topically:
You can mix a small amount of pearl powder with water, honey, or your favorite facial oil to create a simple mask. Apply it to clean skin, leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse. Some people also add a tiny pinch into their moisturizer or serum for daily use.
Important: This is general information based on traditional use and available research. Pearl powder is not a medical treatment. Please do a patch test first and consult with a skincare professional or licensed TCM practitioner before regular use, especially if you have sensitive skin or any skin conditions.
