πŸ’”πŸΎ "My boyfriend wants to know when I'm going to get over my grief losing Nala" is the kind of worry I hear a lot from my clients grieving the loss of a pet.

If we would only talk more about grief, maybe we'd understand it better and never be told "get over it" again.

Grief is something you will likely always carry with you, but you learn to grow around it and understand yourself and others better.

πŸ’”πŸΎ I think the reason social media and online support platforms for pet loss are so powerful is because that's so often where we finally feel understood.

The meaningful bonds we build with our pet are so special.

And once you've experienced pet loss grief, you understand even more how important it is to maintain that bond on some level.

Connecting with others who have walked this path or are on that path now can give you the support and strength you may not get from others.

Follow me so that I can be part of that support.

πŸ’”πŸΎ "Acceptance" is a word you hear a lot when people talk about pet loss grief, but I think it's often misunderstood.

It is absolutely NOT the same as "getting over it" or "finding closure".

It is simply, "this horrible thing happened to me."

I think of acceptance as the opposite of denial, which we can have a lot of right after the loss of a beloved pet.

We all have a different timeline to acceptance, and that's ok. Acceptance, when you are ready, is not something to fear, and does not in anyway diminish the love you have for your pet.

πŸ’”πŸΎ We have so many different ways we support someone after a human loved oned passes away.

Funerals, memorial services, home visits to comfort mourners are all ways we receive community support.

With pet loss we often don't have that.

And we can feel so isolated and alone.

As a pet loss therapist, I encourage people to make their own rituals in a way that's comfortable for them.

πŸΎπŸ’” Even 8 years later, I still miss how Joni would sleep on the pillow next to me the whole night. (ReRe joins me in the morning).

Our pets regulate us in so many ways: activity, mealtime, and of course sleep.

That's why pet loss grief can make you feel so off balance.

Follow for daily support and please share this with anyone who's lost a pet.

πŸ’”πŸΎ Our memories help us maintain a continuing bond with our beloved pets we are grieving.

"You live on curled up in a special place in my heart" is an affirmation that reminds us that our bonds with our pets are eternal.

Like this reel and save it for days when pet loss grief gets heavy.

πŸΎπŸ’” At work, at school, in social situations, we often feel like we have to hide our pet loss grief behind a mask.

People ask us how we're doing and we say "OK" because we feel we might break down if we say "not good."

It's exhausting.

I know. Pet loss is hard.

Take off the mask when you feel safe to do so, even if it's for a short time.

Follow for more understanding and support.
