April showers ☔️ bring May flowers 💐 or so they say. This is the longest winter I’ve ever experienced and it’s unacceptable. The good news is, I’m opening up my schedule on Sundays starting in May! This helps open up some options for those who can’t make it during the week, since my hours are still limited for at least the next few months as I balance work life with newborn baby life 🤗

✨Easing back into strength ✨via postpartum physical therapy with ! Anna and I were talking about how in our modern culture there’s a lot of talk about “bouncing back” into shape postpartum - often as quickly as possible. That’s a lot of pressure for on a body whose ligaments, tendons, muscles, and skin took 9 months to stretch and reposition, so “bouncing back” isn’t the phrase I would use. Even though it takes 6-12 weeks for the postpartum body to heal from the delivery, it can take up to a year for the body to truly recover, physically, hormonally, and emotionally too. Forcing the body to “get back into shape” faster than it’s ready can cause injuries, especially to the core and pelvic floor. In TCM, we encourage gentle movement and strength training so as to lot deplete the body and spirit. So here I am, doing my best to take care of my body and spirit amidst the chaos of balancing work and newborn challenges. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done 😬

Having emerged from the other side, I feel it’s important to mention a few things about the postpartum period. In the West, a lot of emphasis is on getting back to normal as quickly as possible. There’s a lot of information about newborn care, and not a lot about caring for the parents. In Chinese tradition (and also tradition in several other cultures), the postpartum period is considered the fourth trimester. We call this the Sitting Month, a time for rest, recovery, and bonding. Proper efforts to rest and recover during this time sets up a foundation for a better physical and mental health, and prevents illness and injury in the future.

So here are my recommendations, for both parents and people who are curious about how to support the during this transitional period 💜

Enjoying the last few weeks as a full time mom with my little one 💗.

It’s hard to describe how it feels as if time flies by so quickly, even during the most difficult moments. He grows so quickly, and it seems like there’s something new every day - a new babble, a new cry, a new smile, the way his eyes are a little more focused everyday, the way he turns his head toward my voice.

Part of me has fomo about going back to work because I don’t want to miss any milestones, but another part of me deeply misses my work. Every now and then I get a message from a former patient with an update about their child, who not so long ago was still a dream they prayed for. As a new mom, I’m more motivated than ever to help make this dream a reality for others.

I’m happy to share that I will be returning from maternity leave soon! I’ll slowly be easing back into the office starting Friday, April 17th.

Appointment availability will be limited at first, but I’m looking forward to reconnecting with many of you and supporting your care again. I also plan to open weekend appointments at a later time, once things settle into a rhythm, and will send another update when those become available.

Chloe will continue seeing patients on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

My schedule is now open! You can book appointments online as usual. If you have any questions or need help scheduling, feel free to reach out. Thank you all for your patience and support during the special time for my family. I’m excited to be back in the clinic and to see you again soon!

Sweet Strength: Dates for Labor Prep 🍯🤰🏻

One of the simplest (and most researched) foods for late pregnancy? Dates.

Eating 6–7 dates (small to medium dates, or 3 Medjool dates) daily from 36–37 weeks has been shown to:
✨ Support cervical ripening
✨ Shorten active labor
✨ Reduce need for induction meds
✨ Provide steady energy for birth

Why they work:
• Natural sugars = labor fuel
• Magnesium + potassium = muscle support
• Iron + folate = blood + stamina
• Fiber = smoother digestion

TCM view: Dates (Da Zao / Hong Zao) nourish Blood + Spleen Qi, calm the nervous system, and support uterine circulation — all key for a smoother birth.

Easy ways to use:
👉 Snack on them (all dates)
👉 Blend into a protein shake or smoothie (all dates)
👉 Simmer in broths and soups (jujube dates)
👉 Brew into ginger-date tea (jujube dates)

Sometimes birth prep is… just eating fruit consistently.

Save this for week 36 🍯
