One of neuroscience’s biggest questions is what causes certain adults to preserve their cognitive skills in their older age, despite also carrying early Alzheimer’s-related brain changes. Modern science is still looking into this, but according to a recent article from Neuroscience News, new research from Murdoch University shows that it could be due to maintaining good overall brain health throughout life. You can learn more about this research by reading the article through the URL provided below.

When it comes to brain health, even minor environmental factors can have a big impact. Recently, Neuroscience News posted an article about the link between air pollution and cognitive decline. According to research from McMaster University, long-term exposure to even low levels of air pollution can be associated with signs of cognitive decline. You can learn more by reading the article at the URL provided below.

Recently, AARP posted an article on its website about being aware of and ready for the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. When people are exposed to new information about brain health risks – such as ways to decrease dementia risk and otherwise protect brain health – then they are more likely to change their attitude and habits. You can learn more by reading the article, which can be found using the URL provided below.

Last week, we mentioned how certain autism symptoms can be mislabeled as ADHD symptoms. Today, we’re coming back to this topic with a new focus: how having ADHD while also being autistic can make a person experience challenges that don’t fit neatly into either category. Recently, the Conversation posted an article about this that helps explain which condition is usually diagnosed first, which difficulties can be exacerbated, and which traits from each condition can conflict with each other. You can read more by using the URL that’s been provided below.

Getting the right diagnosis can change a person’s life, but how often is one condition mistaken for another? Recently, Psychology Today posted an article about six ways that ADHD traits can “hide” autism, causing autism symptoms like social struggles and movement/sensory seeking to be labeled as ADHD symptoms like impulsivity and hyperactivity. If you want to learn more, then you can read the article by using the URL provided below.

Last week, Neuroscience News posted an article about how brain health can depend on many different lifetime factors. According to a scientific statement from the American Heart Association, brain health is shaped by childhood experiences, the microbiome, psychological health, exposure to pollution, and more. This should affect not only how we care for our brains in later life, but also how we can determine cognitive aging risk based on our pasts. If you want to learn more, then you can read the article by using the URL provided below.

When you have a neurological disorder, aspects of everyday life can be much harder to balance. Fortunately, there are ways to adapt to the challenges that these conditions can throw at you. The website Multiple Sclerosis News Today shared a helpful example of this through their piece about caring for a pet while living with multiple sclerosis. Even if you don’t have a pet – or multiple sclerosis! – its examples of how to simplify tasks, use assistive devices, and prepare for flareups can be used as outlines when adapting to other situations. Last week, Neuroscience News posted an article about the changes that can occur in the brain when its white matter is damaged. According to research from the University of Cambridge’s Stem Cell Institute, localized damage to white brain matter causes inflammation in regions of grey matter. While this inflammation is usually necessary for healing, if the brain’s myelin fails to regenerate as needed, this can instead result in chronic inflammation and neurodegeneration. You can read more about this research by using the URL provided below.
