What if your voice isn’t simply a reflection of who you are—but one of the ways you can shape who you’re becoming?

That’s the idea behind my new live masterclass, Know Your Voice: Find Your Power.

We’ll explore the connections between mind, body, breath, habits, and voice—and you’ll experiment with those connections yourself.

Tuesday, October 27 · 11:00 AM ET

Do your words slur together when you’re nervous? Or do you tend to mumble?

Here’s a simple fix: move your mouth more.

I spoke about this in a recent podcast interview, but here’s your practice plan:

Practice in front of a mirror. Watch your mouth as you speak. Aim for about a pinky’s width of opening between your teeth.
Start small. Words → phrases → sentences.
Practice with strangers first. You’re less likely to slip back into your old habits than you are when speaking with friends or family.
Then up the ante. Bring it into a meeting, client call or presentation.

Why does this work?

Not only does it make your speech clearer and more deliberate, it can actually help calm your nerves too.
When you give your brain something physical to focus on, like moving your mouth and really articulating your words, you have less room for anxious thoughts. It gets you out of your head and back into the moment.
Try it next time you speak.

What helps YOU stay clear and present when you speak? Let me know in the comments.

Save this post as a reminder before your next big presentation.

Your voice might be saying something you don’t realise.

I worked with a banker who had all the expertise, but clients kept choosing someone else after the first phone call.

It wasn’t her knowledge. It was how she sounded.

Your voice is part of your personal brand. As you grow, it should grow with you too.

If you’ve ever wondered what your voice is communicating before you even finish your first sentence, send me a DM or book a free consultation through my website, link in bio

This is where I do some of my best work.
Well, not really intentionally.

This is Fort Tryon Park, near where I live in Upper Manhattan. When I feel burnt out or stuck, this is where I usually end up—walking here at least 3 times a week. It’s beautiful in every season, but summer might be my favorite.

It’s often on these walks that my brain gets unstuck, or things come together in a new way.

I used to think of stepping away as the opposite of working. Now I think it’s part of the work.

At least, it is for me.

I’d love to know: what do you do when you feel stuck? Do you have a place?

Most people think voice is just about how you sound.

It’s not.

Your voice reflects your breath, your body, your nervous system, and the stories you’ve been carrying.

When you free your voice, you often unlock so much more than better communication.

That’s where you really see the transformation begin.

Pause more.
That’s like telling someone to “just relax.”

A real pause isn’t something you add—it’s something your breath creates naturally.

Without understanding what needs to be happening beneath the surface, your speech is going to sound mechanical.

👉 Try marking pauses into a short passage (I share an example in the article). You’ll see how much more natural your speech feels when breath sets the rhythm.

I spent my summer staring at water. Seriously.😎

Sitting on a cruise balcony watching the ocean (celebrating my boyfriend's stepfather's 90th birthday - he seems 60, by the way). Walking by the Hudson River outside my apartment in Fort Tryon Park. Hanging out by the Housatonic River in the Berkshires where we have a house.

🛥Something about water forces you to slow down and actually see what's in front of you. Every day the light is different. The air shifts. Even the same view never looks exactly the same.

Here's what hit me during all this water-staring: We settle into versions of ourselves without realizing it. Your voice does this too.

🕰 I just worked with a CFO whose voice was stuck in time. He'd borrowed this overly formal, cautious tone early in his career to sound 'executive-ready.' But 15 years later, as an actual executive leading a team, it made him sound like he was reading from a script.

We didn't change everything - just small shifts: → Dropped the jargon that kept people at arm's length → Let his natural rhythm come through instead of that forced 'professional' cadence → Most importantly: let his personality show (turns out he's actually pretty funny)

The result? His team started actually engaging in meetings instead of just nodding along. 👏

Sometimes the voice that got you here won't take you there. Just like looking at something familiar with fresh eyes, sometimes you need to listen to yourself with fresh ears.👂👂

Want the full story (plus more summer revelations that somehow relate to professional growth)? I share it all in this week's newsletter: https://lnkd.in/e346AUbu
