Looking inside means ceasing to engage with events, ceasing to engage with names. By engaging with a particular event, you eliminate a whole series of other happenings. You spend a day, a week, a month, a year... an entire lifetime, engaged with familiar events, chasing your own tail, following events that aren’t even present anymore, while the present is dancing right in front of you and you have no eyes to see it.

A book is a book only because everyone says it’s a book. Someone called it a “book” one day, and it’s been repeated ever since. But only the name of the object is “book”, and there’s an abysmal distance between what it is and the name of the object.

What do you want? Once you know it, that becomes your quest. Discover what lies behind all the storylines of relationship, money, power, security... If you discover what lies behind all of that, you discover what you want, and then you can finally bring everything into alignment with it.

You can’t have peace if you’re worried about what will happen to your phone.
Peace is not worrying about what’s to come.
What has to happen will happen.

Access now the simple and obvious: flowers are not flowers. You don’t know what they are and you never truly will. We can only describe according to what we’ve learned. And even if we don’t call them flowers, we’ll give them other names - all of them the result of a convention, a memory, a past.

You never remain in the space of innocence, with the innocence of a child who doesn’t know what things are. But I confess that, even from within my adulthood, I look at what we call “flower” and have the clear certainty that I don’t know what it is.

If you want to know who you are, a rupture is necessary - a break with the known. There is no way to accept the invitation of satsang while remaining in the world, following the crowd.

The map that the mind proposes is tradition.
Tradition engenders time. Time presupposes repetition.
