The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center Most of our physicians are on the teaching staff at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

Since its inception in 1986, the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center has been providing its patients with the best possible care of sports, spine, orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions. The PMR Center is a diagnostic and treatment facility, with an emphasis on non-operative treatment including physical therapy, occupational therapy, patient education, and body mechanics. While the majority of conditions are responsive to non-operative therapy, our physicians will readily refer to and work closely with any other specialists or surgeons our patients may require. The PMR Center has grown to include multidisciplinary outpatient facilities with a staff of physiatrists (doctors of physical medicine and rehabilitation), physical therapists, occupational therapists and massage therapists. This comprehensive staff gives us the ability to have diversely specialized clinicians as one would find in a university, while our intimate private office setting allows for superb caregiver communication and exceptional patient care. Physicians and therapists communicate about their patients on a daily basis, and continuously further their knowledge informally as well as through formal bimonthly in-office academic meetings.

Today, we remember. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years later, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the survivors who carried on, and the first responders, healthcare workers, and everyday heroes who answered an unimaginable moment with extraordinary courage.

Their sacrifice remains a powerful reminder of the strength found in service, compassion, and community.

From all of us at The PMR Center, we remember today and always. Never Forget. 9.11.01. 🇺🇸

Physical therapy and pain management are different tools but they work toward the same goal:

Helping you move better, feel better, and get back to your life.

Physical therapy focuses on strength, mobility, movement, and function.

Pain management helps reduce pain and inflammation so your body can move with more comfort.

When combined, the results can be powerful:
less pain, better movement, and a smarter recovery plan.

At PMR, we build personalized treatment plans designed around your body, your pain, and your goals.

Not every ache means something is seriously wrong. Sometimes your body simply needs rest, recovery, and a little time.

But when pain keeps coming back, isn’t improving, limits what you can do, or starts affecting your everyday life, it may be time to stop guessing and start looking for answers.

In this video, Adeel Ahmad, MD explains why understanding the cause of your pain matters and when it may be appropriate to have it evaluated.

At PMR Center, our team takes a comprehensive approach to pain and recovery, combining medical evaluation, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and individualized treatment options to help you understand what’s happening and determine the right next step.

MYTH: Every herniated disc needs surgery.

The truth? Many herniated discs can improve with the right conservative care, time, and a personalized treatment plan.

Surgery may be necessary in certain cases, but it’s usually not the first step.

At PMR, our goal is simple:

Less pain.
More function.
No surgery whenever possible.

If back pain, leg pain, numbness, or sciatica symptoms are affecting your life, don’t guess. Get evaluated and learn what options may be right for you.

Rest can help in the beginning but too much rest can slow your recovery.

When pain shows up, it’s natural to want to stop moving completely. But your joints, muscles, and body were made to move.

The key isn’t doing more.

It’s doing the right movement at the right time.

At PMR, we help patients find the balance between pain relief, movement, and long-term recovery.

Move better.
Feel better.
Live better.

Schedule an evaluation today and let’s build the right plan for your body.

Knee pain doesn’t always come from one big injury.

Sometimes it’s the small habits you repeat every day:
resting too much, pushing too hard, ignoring support, or waiting too long to get help.

The goal isn’t to stop moving forever.
The goal is to move smarter, build strength, and understand what your knee actually needs.

At PMR, we help patients get to the root of their pain with personalized care plans built around movement, recovery, and long-term results.

Dealing with knee pain? Schedule an evaluation and let’s build a plan that helps you move with more confidence.
