๐Ÿ‘‰ Where Your Work with Trauma Deepens

Applications are open for ICP's Trauma Studies Center!

ICP's Trauma Studies Program supports the candidates through the transformational process of becoming a Trauma Therapist. ICP offers a foundational understanding of what trauma is, how to recognize it, how to sit with it in the room and how to know which tools to use when. The most common reason why tools do not always work is because they are missing the foundation of trauma education that ICP provides.Individual supervision at ICP's Trauma Studies Program is highly personalized and unfolds like a case study. Theory informs the work, but clinical depth remains the priority. Two clients, one supervisor, week after week, with supervisors that are literally handpicked for their expertise.

Our tailored supports are designed to provide the professional and personal guides so the material learned becomes part of one's professional and personal identities. We are built to be the stepping stone for alumni as they reach their next states of their career. This includes opportunities to begin supervising, or running a group, presenting or teaching a topic with specific expertise, or joining the policy forming committee.Since 2004, ICP's Trauma Studies Center has trained clinicians in the theory and treatment of psychological trauma, making it the first NYC psychotherapy training institute to offer comprehensive trauma training and the most clinically focused certificate program in the metropolitan area.

Our faculty are seasoned practitioners skilled in a range of trauma processing methods, all in active clinical practice. This two-year program combines coursework, group case consultation, and individual supervision to help mental health professionals develop an integrated understanding of trauma, and the practical clinical skills to treat traumatized clients effectively. If you are ready to deepen your expertise in trauma treatment, we invite you to explore and apply!

Two years. Real depth. A training that meets you where you are!

๐Ÿ“… Join us for our LAST Information Session, on June 29th from 6-7pm

(No cost, just sign up - we would love to have you join)

Learn more about the program structure, training approach, and application process.

โœจICP's Trauma Studies Program offers advanced training in the understanding and treatment of psychological trauma, grounded in contemporary clinical practice and informed by developments in neuroscience.

Since 2004, the program has woven together theory, supervision, group case consultation, and practicum experience into a training designed to support clinicians at every stage.

Here's what the research shows:

โ€ข 70% of adults have experienced trauma
โ€ข Most clinicians never receive formal training to treat it
โ€ข Shorter certifications can actually create a false sense of competence: you learn the "what," but not the "how" or the "who you are" as a trauma therapist

ICP's Trauma Studies Program is different:
โœ“ Two years of cohort-based learning (Wednesdays, in-person)
โœ“ 120 hours of supervised clinical work with real clients in our clinic
โœ“ Introductions to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Brainspotting, EMDR, AEDP, and IFS - all within a psychodynamic framework

๐ŸŒฟ A thoughtful, supportive environment. A community of clinicians who are actively in the work alongside you.

We are delighted to announce that our very own Gary Jacobson, LCSW, will receive the Cornerstone Award at this year's Rise for NYC annual fundraising breakfast. This honor recognizes a community member whose sustained presence and dedication have helped carry forward our mission.

For more than twenty-five years, Gary's name has been synonymous with commitment at ICP. Since completing his training in 1999, he has served in nearly every capacityโ€”as a staff member, supervisor, faculty, PCGS executive committee member, and longtime chair of the SICP weekend retreat committee.

Whether it is a graduation ceremony, an analytic presentation, a happy hour, or leading the way to the dance floor at the SICP weekend, Gary shows up. Consistently. Enthusiastically.

Save the Date: October 29, 2026 | 8:00 AM โ€“ 10:00 AM Location: The Harvard Club

Registration information will be sent over the summer. For now, please join us in congratulating Gary.

A recurring pattern emerges: clinicians who attend workshops on trauma often report a gap between what they learned and what they can actually do in the room. Real integration - the mindset shift that changes practice - happens over time, not in a weekend.
