At the Robert and John M. Bendheim Parkinson and Movement Disorders Center at Mount Sinai, our physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating both hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders. Hypokinetic movement disorders are characterized by an abnormal slowing down or paucity of movement, as with Parkinson's disease. Hyperkinetic movement disorders are characterized by excessive, involun
tary movements, as with dystonia, Huntington's disease, and tremor disorders. Our clinical research is designed to elucidate and better understand the etiology of movement disorders, leading to better treatments and improved quality of life. We are involved in investigator-initiated research studies as well as clinical trials in Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and other movement disorders.
