Happy Birthday to my beautiful Sister, Neerja. Namaste! πŸ™πŸ½ Love you lady, you just don't know how much. Thank you for all that we share as cancer survivors. For coming to see me and hosting me all the way from Chennai! For accepting to be my guest on Cancer Convos with Grace B. to share your authored work and your laudable cancer initiatives as a global icon.

How about when we were both awarded 'The Iconic Women Creating a Better World for All' in Bangalore, amplifying marginalized voices, and uplifting communities in our advocacy work?
And the absolute honor it was, to share it with you? πŸ˜‡

May the sun keep shining on you, my dear Neerja. I am truly blessed by your friendship and I hope vice versa.

June is....
..Cancer Rehabilitation Awareness Month.
Cancer rehabilitation isn't a luxury or a trend. It is a whole-person care structure centered around physical and mental health therapy, movement and exercise, nutrition, and so on, for that cancer survivor managing the occasional debilitating long-term side effects of cancer treatment.

Personally, survivorship is returning to all meaningful and fulfilling activity. Certain health systems do not have the critical structures to support continued care once active treatment ends.

As a cancer survivor and advocate who has been in the health system for ten years and counting, I have to name what the data already shows, which is that access to cancer rehab is not the same for Black and Brown survivors, patients in rural areas, those on Medicaid, those without insurance, and patients with health literacy challenges. If cancer rehabilitation is already a problem in the general survivor population, imagine what it looks like for the communities already carrying the heaviest burden of cancer disparities. πŸ€”

As Founder and Host of Cancer Convos with Grace B, I know that access to information is in itself a form of care. Each conversation we have about survivorship, rehabilitation, and what our quality of life after treatment should look like, is a step toward a more complete picture of ideal cancer care.

Surviving cancer is a blessing πŸ˜‡, but thriving after it should be the gold standard. πŸͺ™

It is why Cancer Convos with Grace B. is excited to continue to advance awareness of cancer rehab as a critical part of cancer care and recovery and proud to partner with The International Cancer Rehabilitation Foundation (ICRF) as a Sponsor for International Cancer Rehabilitation Awareness Month and going forward.

Hey Fam! πŸ‘‹ Before our new monthly episode goes LIVE, did you know June is Men's Health Month?
In this throwback episode, we feature our dear friend, a powerful prostate cancer advocate, and podcast host, Robert Ginyard. Education and awareness are critical in addressing prostate cancer. In the global Black community, stigma around prostate cancer often leads to avoiding preventive care. Also, misconceptions can stop men from seeking support and it is why increased awareness campaigns are needed to emphasize early detection, lifestyle changes, and the importance of seeking medical help for symptoms.

There is evidence-based research which show that prostate cancer impacts black men differently. Robert advises talking and sharing of information among brothers to garner momentum on the importance of having a prostate exam. The link to this insightful episode is below to learn how Robert is paying his experience forward.

Dear Fam, June is National Cancer Survivor's Month! Shout out to our fellow warriors, their caregivers, and healthcare teams. We made it to another year of survivorship.

We may not have been at , however, WE were UP there last year, in spirit, in purpose, and in presence.

Having joined virtually this year, here is what you need to know about new breakthroughs in cancer research.

πŸ’œ For pancreatic cancer, a new drug, daraxonrasib, nearly doubled survival! Wow! 😲

πŸ’œ For breast cancer, a genomic test (Prosigna) can help spare a majority of high-risk patients from chemo. This is so welcomed as I still manage chemo-induced side effects years after treatment. πŸ™„

πŸ’œ Regarding lung cancer, an antibody (ivonescimab) outperformed standard immunotherapy.

πŸ’œ GLP-1 drugs may help prevent an early-stage cancer from advancing to late stage.

Looking at the big picture, it is obvious that AI, multicancer early detection tests, and digital health tools are moving oncology toward more personalized care.

This is why we do this work. Science is moving fast and patients deserve to understand what is coming and what is possible. It is exactly why Cancer Convos with Grace B. exists, to demystify all of this for our community because you deserve to know and allowed to ask questions. There is hope. The future is bright.

Hey Fam, today is my 10th cancerversary. It is 10 years to this very minute that I received my diagnosis, and I remain cancer-free. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ½πŸ’œ

I am so thankful to Almighty God, my amazing daughter, immediate family, extended family, and my supportive medical team, who still have my back after all these years. ❀️

Also grateful for the many relationships, partnerships, and lessons during this life-changing experience, and continue to pray fervently for a cure.

To that person starting out on their cancer journey, I say, keep your faith on overdrive, remain resolute, and ensure you have someone or a few good souls to encourage you. Keep negativity away. Self advocacy is key. Ask questions and empower yourself by staying informed about your diagnosis. If no one told you, you are allowed to get 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th opinions.

So, there it is, dear Fam, a toast to life! πŸ₯‚ Thank you so much for being here and encouraging me. ❀️ I will always cherish you.

Aluta continua! πŸ‘ŠπŸ½

We may not have been at this year, however, WE were UP there last year, in spirit, and in purpose.

, the American Cancer Society (ACS) expanded collaboration with American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to help patients better find cancer information online, creating one of the largest and most comprehensive online resources available for FREE to the public.
The ASCO meeting is a platform for oncology professionals to discuss groundbreaking scientific discoveries and therapies and, as you can imagine, ACS scientists and other global clinical oncologists deliver excellent presentations in clinical cancer research. This year highlighted a breakthrough for pancreatic cancer and breast cancer to be shared soon. πŸ‘πŸ½

Our message is always loud and clear.
