Yesterday, our auditorium was transformed into a lively celebration of culture, community and friendly competition for our first-ever dominoes tournament!

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, residents and Adult Day Health Care clients gathered around the tables to play, bond and enjoy delicious Latin food. The room was filled with festive energy, laughter and, of course, the unmistakable click of dominoes.

A heartfelt thank-you to our Therapeutic Recreation, Adult Day Health Care, Food and Nutrition, and Environmental Services teams for working together to create such a colorful and memorable celebration!

“The system is fundamentally broken,” he says, “and we’re not going to fix it with band-aids.”

In a new TIME piece, The New Jewish Home’s president and CEO Dr. Jeffrey Farber shares his perspective on how we can reimagine long-term care to better meet the needs of older adults.

As our aging population grows, too many older adults are moving into nursing homes not because they need intensive medical care, but because they lack access to affordable housing alternatives. Dr. Farber hopes to spark a broader conversation about how we can address this challenge, offering solutions that could help transform the system, including:

Boosting support for older adults facing homelessness through subsidized housing and special programs that provide tailored, part-time help for manageable medical conditions;

Requiring hospitals to provide rehabilitation, and to only discharge patients when they’re truly ready to return home; and

Investing in non-profit, mission-driven compassionate care homes with innovative workforce training – like The New Jewish Home’s SkillSpring program – for our loved ones who do have complex medical needs.

Yesterday, we celebrated the extraordinary people who bring The New Jewish Home’s mission to life. From March through July, 60 staff members across 11 departments were recognized by residents, patients, and families for their compassion and exceptional care. A family called our nurses and CNAs "incredible human beings." Another described a nurse practitioner as a "beacon of light." A rehabilitation patient even thanked 27 staff members by name! We are proud to honor our remarkable colleagues and grateful for the difference they make every day.💙

Grandparents Day brought so much joy to The New Jewish Home! 💙 Our residents spent the day surrounded by family and loved ones, making jewelry, playing games and listening to live music.

Days like these remind us just how special the bond between generations truly is. Thank you to all the families who visited and made this day one to remember!
