Last night felt like the New York I fell in love with.

I was at a neighborhood bar sharing a table with fellow dads, watching Game 4 unfold. By halftime, after the second quarter, about 60% of the bar had already left. They thought it was over.

But a few of us stayed.

We kept believing.

What happened next was one of those moments that reminds you why this city is different. The never-die attitude. The resilience. The teamwork. The refusal to quit when the odds say you should.

I barely slept afterward. I kept replaying the game, watching the highlights over and over, realizing that we had witnessed what might become a part of New York sports history.

And maybe that’s why this city inspires so many people.

New Yorkers get knocked down. We get frustrated. We complain. But when it matters most, we show up, we stay, and we keep believing.

To the dads at our table, to everyone who stayed until the final buzzer, and to every New Yorker who chooses hope over cynicism:

Thank you for reminding me what New York should feel like.

In loving memory of my dad, who left us with laughter, tears, and a bunch of holey socks. It's been ten years since you started your never-ending comedy tour, and not a day passes without me yearning for your contagious giggles and sharp wit. The void you left behind, dear dad, feels insurmountable.

You were more than just a funny guy; you were a hardworking superhero, effortlessly juggling your responsibilities with a mischievous smile. I still remember those evenings when you'd come home from work, proudly presenting me with my favorite hamburger from your office canteen. Exhausted, yet always ready to entertain. Your comedic timing was spot-on, even if your dance moves made us question our own coordination.

You were the ultimate family man, a steadfast source of love, support, and those dad jokes that were simultaneously hilarious and cringe-inducing. You worked tirelessly to ensure we lacked nothing, and your legacy as a great provider continues to shine in our lives.

But beyond the laughter and jokes, you had a special gift for friendship. Your humble and down-to-earth nature attracted people from all walks of life. I'll forever cherish the memory of you cracking jokes with your Latino coworkers, even though you didn't speak a word of Spanish. You had a way of connecting with everyone, bridging language barriers and lighting up hearts with laughter.

Dad, you left an everlasting mark on our lives, and though the void you left remains deeply felt, we strive to keep your memory alive. We aim to embody your exceptional qualities, even when our own attempts at humor fall short and our dance moves stumble. Your absence is a constant ache, but your presence in our hearts shines brighter than ever.

So, dear Dad, wherever your spirit now resides, we hope you're surrounded by eternal laughter, an endless supply of puns, and an otherworldly audience that appreciates your unique sense of humor. We miss you more than words can express, and though words may fail to capture the depth of our longing, your memory lives on in our hearts.
