Journal of Experimental Medicine's October issue is here! https://hubs.la/Q04yFSX-0 The cover shows Sirius red staining in aged gastrocnemius muscle treated with UA-30 and injected with AAV-RalA (G23V) virus.

Zhang et al. describe the novel compound UA-30, which has anti-aging properties in muscle due to actions on anti-fibrotic mechanisms and mitochondrial function. https://hubs.la/Q04yFS-q0

Journal of Cell Biology's October issue is here! https://hubs.la/Q04yFsgm0
The cover shows blastula embryos undergoing zygotic genome activation (ZGA). Top: normal embryo; bottom: inverted embryo. Segmented nuclei from whole-mount embryos in laser scanning confocal image stacks color coded by amount of nascent transcription within the nucleus; from ethynyl uridine incorporation into newly transcribed RNA followed by click chemistry with TAMRA-azide. High transcription (red) to low transcription (blue). Spatially controlling cell division in early development allows formation of inverted embryos with a flipped pattern of genome activation revealing a quality control pathway that senses proper spatiotemporal patterning of ZGA.

"Journal of Experimental Medicine doubtlessly is among the most prestigious journals in the overall field of medicine and in particular for the fields of immunology and inflammation. Its content in cancer immunology and immunotherapy is always relevant, methodologically sound, and often very new. We have recently published a Brief Definitive Report showing that the receptor of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) on tumor cells signals to the benefit of the malignancy by means of orchestrating protumor immunosuppressive inflammation through several mediators downstream of TNF. The editorial process was fair and the criticisms and questions raised by reviewers were to-the-point and reasonable, albeit tough to be experimentally addressed in a number of instances. We are very proud of our JEM article and feel that it will receive wide exposure in the community.” — Ignacio Melero, Universidad de Navarra.

“JGP is one of the increasingly rare journals where editorial decisions remain firmly centered on scientific merit. The review process is rigorous and fair, and the editors do not allow competitive pressures to override a balanced assessment of the science. Just as importantly, JGP continues to champion the work after publication, helping its significance reach the broader scientific community. Because the journal’s standards are trusted internationally, publication in JGP can lead to lasting visibility and recognition well beyond the immediate field. In our own experience, this increased visibility was followed by further international recognition, including scientific awards and a feature in Biomedical Picture of the Day (BPoD), supported by the University of Oxford.”— Chieko Koike, Ritsumeikan University
