With cigarette smoking on the decline, to***co companies have shifted focus to “smokeless” to***co products like zyn, snus, s***f, on! and velo among others. New study shows that the rate of rebound (4-8%}is the same for those who take antivirals (ie paxlovid) and those who don’t. They also stated there are no clinical adverse outcomes related to viral rebound. The more someone is immunocompromised the more likely a person had a viral rebound.

233 patients with severe treatment resistant depression were used in the trial. 3 different doses were used as a one time treatment: 1 mg, 10 mg and 25mg. Those with severe suicidal ideation were excluded. Adverse effects were seen in all groups and especially in the 25mg dose group- ie suicidal ideation or behavior, self injury, nausea, dizziness and/or headache. The 25mg one time dose significantly reduced depression scores over a 3 week period when compared to the other doses. Longer and larger studies are now needed to determine the safety and efficacy of psilocybin on severe treatment resistant depression.

It states the half dose given gave the same immune response as that of the full dose in adults. We now have the bivalent vaccine for all ages 5 and up. Please get booster prior as soon as you can

A new preprint study shows that almost 1 in 8 people with mild to moderate COVID-19 who have not been treated with an antiviral (eg paxlovid) have a rebound: ie test negative after having COVID-19 and then a few days later, test positive again. It is rare though for the rebound to have a high viral load or severe symptoms. Older people are more susceptible to having rebound in general.

A recent study out of Qatar showed that prior COVID 19 infections (even the alpha or delta variant) helps to protect against BA.4 and BA.5. Prior pre-omicron infection prevented symptomatic infection by 28.3% and a prior infection with omicron was 79.7% effective at preventing BA.4 and BA.5 reinfection and 76.1% effective agents preventing symptomatic infection.

Balance declines rapidly after someone is in their mid-50s increasing the risk of falls and other adverse events. A study out of Brazil followed 1702 individuals, aged 51-75 for 12 years. They found that patients who couldn’t stand on one leg (with other leg bent behind the standing leg and arms by one’s side) for 10 seconds or longer, had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality when compared to those who could.

Which mRNA vaccine is more effective over time? A new real-world analysis of the incidence of COVID-19 infection after vaccination can help determine the effectiveness of these vaccines. Looking at 3.5 million fully vaccinated individuals over time, it showed that the moderna vaccine gave statistically more protection at 90 days after 14 days post second vaccine from infection. There were no differences in vaccine effectiveness for protection against hospitalization, icu admission or death. This study was done prior to variants of concern occurring ie delta or omicron, so that needs further studying. .portfolio
