Love / Hate relationship with the question “What do you do for work?” because…

😡Hate telling people I’m a physical therapists because the assumption is that we just massage and stretch people and give them easy band exercises…

Unconventional Warm-Up Series: Episode 1: Physioball Dodgeball

Elevated HR, increased body temp, some nervous system stimulation, hand-eye coordination, full-body exercise.

However, don’t do this in any gym or you’ll likely get kicked out.

If you have a chance, definitely try this outside at a park because it’s surprisingly so much fun to launch a physioball at someone’s face.

Shoulder rehab without surgery can look like…

💪🏼From not being able to lift her arm up past 90 degrees… To getting back to boxing, kettlebell training, and overhead presses.

🥲Mya came to us after a pretty bad fall and MRI showed some pretty serious trauma and tear to her rotator cuff (supraspinatus) and bicep tendon.

▶️We started like any other rehab… with just trying to get her range of motion back and working on simple exercises for motor control and strength.

🤔However, the reason Mya was able to get back to kettlebell snatches and overhead presses was because she didn’t stop at just “getting her range of motion and strength back”

💥We worked on training her lower body, her jumping & landing, her upper body plyometrics, her medball throws and catches, and so much more.

📈She also put in the work literally every single day outside of PT either doing her homework or continuing to work on her overall fitness and conditioning.

These types of texts are the reason why I love love love love love my job.

👀Side note: There has also been countless times where I’ll work with a client for a few visits… and then they ghost me… never to hear from them again…

😅Just to find out that years later, they are referring their friends and family to come see me and I’m like… what? I literally thought I failed you…

👉🏼Takeaway: I truly believe what we do here at .pt is different… not because I think we are smarter or more caring than other coaches & clinicians…

🙆🏻‍♂️But because we’ve created a space where we CAN truly care about the person behind the “diagnosis” and/or injury.

🔑At Reload, we have the luxury of time… to actually sit down and to listen to our clients, understand their stories & struggles, and truly meet them where they are when it comes to providing the support or guidance they need.

😅Sometimes, we actually get to know too much about our clients…

🤦🏻‍♂️The big picture is: this ability to truly get to know where someone is coming from, what they are struggling with, and where they want to go in their health & fitness journey is what makes this job so amazing.

👌🏼Having all of that information makes caring for the actually person in front of you so much easier and creating this trust in each other makes the journey towards sustainable fitness so much more effective.
