This week (October 11–17) is OCD Awareness Week.

OCD doesn't just affect the individual. It can also impact relationships. Intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and the anxiety they create can make communication, trust, and connection feel more challenging for everyone involved.

A supportive relationship isn't about providing constant reassurance or having all the answers. It's about approaching one another with empathy, understanding, and a willingness to learn. Whether you're living with OCD or supporting someone who is, remember: OCD is not a personality trait or a preference for cleanliness.

This week, let's replace myths with understanding and stigma with compassion.

💗 October 11 is National Coming Out Day. 🏳️‍🌈

Coming out is a deeply personal journey, and it looks different for everyone. Today, we recognize and celebrate those who have shared their stories, those who are still finding their voice, and those who are waiting until they feel safe and ready.

Everyone deserves to feel accepted, respected, and supported in their relationships and communities. Creating spaces of understanding and compassion is an important part of fostering mental well-being.

At Chamin Ajjan Psychotherapy, we are committed to providing an inclusive and affirming space where all individuals can feel welcomed and supported.

Today is a reminder to prioritize our mental well-being and check in with ourselves and those around us. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical health.

Access to quality mental health care is not a luxury—it's a universal necessity. By fostering open conversations, reducing stigma, and supporting one another, we can help create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Let's continue to advocate for greater awareness, compassion, and access to mental health care.

The first week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week (Oct. 4 to 10).

"Mental health issues are more common than many might think... it’s estimated that in 2023, 23% of adults in the U.S. experienced some form of mental illness (Mental Health America, 2024). These numbers indicate that nearly 1 in 4 people face mental health challenges each year, a statistic comparable to the number of adults affected by the flu annually (National Institutes of Health, 2016)."

October is ADHD Awareness Month!

ADHD is more than just difficulty focusing. It can affect your work, your home life, your relationships, your finances, and so much more.

For many people, ADHD goes unrecognized or misunderstood—especially when their challenges don’t fit the stereotypes we often hear about. Raising awareness helps foster understanding and support for all those affected by ADHD.

This month, we’re honoring the many ways ADHD can show up across different ages and experiences. Whether you’re newly exploring an ADHD diagnosis, learning to work with your brain, supporting a loved one, or simply seeking greater understanding, you don’t have to navigate it alone!

This week has been heavy. Between the Cornell 7 headlines and the insensitive public response, so many survivors are feeling re-traumatized.

If you’ve felt overwhelmed, angry, or exhausted, your feelings are completely valid. You aren’t overreacting, and you aren’t alone.

Please protect your peace, step back if you need to, and give yourself grace today. Drop a 🤍 below if you need a reminder that you’re supported.

"October marks National Depression and Health Screening Month, offering an opportunity to pause and reflect on the importance of mental health and self-care. Through this initiative, the goal is to raise awareness of the widespread nature of mental health challenges and highlight the value of incorporating self-care practices."

This month serves as an opportunity to pause and reflect on the importance of mental health and self-care. It also reminds us that mental health challenges are common and that early recognition and support can make a meaningful difference.

Taking time to check in with ourselves and with those around us helps foster connection, encourage open conversations, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Whether it's scheduling a mental health screening, practicing self-care, or simply reaching out to someone who may need support, every small step matters.

What are you feeling right now?

A feelings wheel can be a helpful tool for slowing down and putting words to what’s happening inside. Sometimes we know we feel “off,” “stressed,” or “upset,” but it can be harder to identify the more specific emotion underneath.

Naming our feelings matters. We can get used to masking them, minimizing them, or misunderstanding what we’re actually experiencing. Becoming more aware of our emotions can help us understand ourselves more clearly, communicate what we need, and respond with greater intention.

To use the wheel, start with the emotion that feels closest to your experience, then move outward to see if a more specific word fits.

There are no “good” or “bad” feelings. Emotions are information, and learning to notice them is part of becoming more connected to yourself.

If identifying, understanding, or expressing your emotions feels difficult, therapy can help. Reach out to Chamin Ajjan Psychotherapy to learn more or schedule a consultation.

Art isn’t just paint on canvas. It’s a mirror. During our private tour of the Post-War to Present preview at with the Masterworks team, Maya Levine, LMSW, MPH and I explored how Post-War and Contemporary art serves as an ideal entry point for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Standing in front of the same canvas, two people can have completely different emotional reactions. The artwork stays the same, but our personal internal realities shape how we see it. And how we distort it. That’s the core of CBT and cognitive reframing: understanding that our perspective shapes our experience, and stepping back allows us to cultivate greater self-awareness.

Thank you for an incredible afternoon! We’d love to collaborate on a future event exploring the intersection of art, perspective, and mental wellness. 🎨🧠
