Hot take: Dr. Chopra doesn’t love a summer glow 👀☀️

That sun-kissed skin, rosy cheeks + extra freckles might look like the perfect summer souvenir. But to a dermatologist, they can tell a different story.

In this patient’s case, Rishi Chopra MD, MS, FAAD points out the signs of accumulated sun exposure: blotchy redness, brown spots, visible vessels + uneven skin tone and texture.
And what we see on the surface is only part of it.

Repeated UV exposure can also contribute to DNA damage + accelerated collagen breakdown, leading to premature skin aging over time.

So, while that summer glow might be fading, the effects of sun exposure can last much longer.

The good news? There are ways to address them⚡️
Stay tuned for Part 2, where Dr. Chopra explains why fall is one of his favorite times to start treating summer skin damage.

7 months of consistency. And a treatment plan built for her skin🙏

This patient came to Dr. Kiran Mian with acne concerns and has been following a personalized regimen combining skincare + prescriptions.

Over time, that consistency has translated into visible improvement in her breakouts + overall complexion.

Because acne treatment isn’t always about doing more. It’s about finding the right plan for your skin and giving it time to work.

Friendly reminder: you do not need to bathe in your tretinoin😂

When it comes to retinoids, using more product doesn’t necessarily get you better results - but it can increase your chances of irritation.

For an area about the size of your face, a pea-sized amount is typically enough. And when used appropriately, tretinoin can help support skin cell turnover, collagen production, pigmentation, tone, texture + the appearance of fine lines and pores.

And yes, Dr. Kiran Mian loves seeing skincare extend beyond the face to areas like the neck, chest + hands. The key is using the right amount for the area and what your skin can tolerate.

Tretinoin is a gold standard for a reason. You just don’t need quite as much as you think👀

*Prescription tretinoin should be used as directed by your dermatologist.

GLP-1 face changes aren’t just about losing weight.

With significant or rapid weight loss, the face can lose fat that normally provides volume and support. When that happens faster than the skin can adapt, you may notice hollowing, increased skin laxity, more prominent folds, jowling, or an overall deflated appearance.

And there may be more happening beneath the surface. Emerging research is exploring whether GLP-1 medications may also interact with cells involved in collagen production and skin structure - although these direct effects are still being studied.

So what can we do about it?
For Chelsea Hoffman, MD MSCR FAAD , the approach starts with the basics - adequate nutrition, protein and hydration - followed by a personalized treatment plan when appropriate. That may include biostimulators, strategically placed filler + collagen-stimulating energy-based treatments like Sofwave™ to address changes in support, volume and skin laxity.

Because the goal isn’t simply to replace everything that was lost.
It’s to support the skin as the face changes.

Microneedling with PRP or without? 👀

Think of it this way: microneedling sends the signal. PRP adds the support.

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that tell the skin it’s time to repair + rebuild. PRP, derived from your own blood, adds platelet-rich growth factors that help support that regenerative response.

Together, they can be used to address acne scars, uneven texture, pigmentation, dullness + overall skin quality.

But does every microneedling treatment need PRP? Not necessarily. The right approach depends on your skin, your concerns + what we’re trying to accomplish.

PRP or PRF? Same starting point. Different regenerative strategy🩸

Both use components from your own blood to support the body’s natural healing response, but differences in how they’re processed change how those regenerative signals are released over time.

So is PRF simply the “new PRP”? Not exactly.

PRP vs. PRF: same starting point, different approach🩸

Both begin with your own blood and use its regenerative components to support natural healing responses in the skin + hair. But how that blood is processed changes what we end up with.

PRP uses an anticoagulant to maintain a liquid platelet-rich plasma, while PRF is processed without an anticoagulant, creating a fibrin-rich layer designed for a more sustained release of regenerative signals over time.

So is PRF simply the “new PRP”? Not exactly. They’re two different ways of using your own biology to support regeneration.

A closer look at one of Dr. Ahram’s melasma patients ⤵️

This patient came to Dr. Ahram with visible melasma and uneven pigmentation across the face. Rather than approaching the pigment with a single treatment, Dr. Ahram created a personalized plan combining consistent at-home management + an in-office treatment selected specifically for the patient's skin 🫧

With melasma, this is important: improvement is only one part of the plan.

Ongoing skincare, sun protection + maintenance are key to helping manage a condition that can recur over time.
