On Monday, the Leadership Council hosted a lively happy hour “friend-raiser” at TheJeffreyNYC, bringing together longtime members of our community as well as new supporters. Guests connected and exchanged stories as the Roosevelt Island Tram passed overhead. These new relationships will help strengthen our community and advance our mission to restore sight in the years ahead.

Guests heard from Leadership Council member and cornea transplant recipient Eduardo Gonzalez who welcomed everyone. Following this, Alyssa Greenberg, who is also a recipient and member of the Council, shared her powerful story of how The Eye-Bank helped her get back to her profession and passion, photography. Both offered a heartfelt reminder of the life-changing impact of The Eye-Bank's sight-saving work.

The evening closed with an exciting raffle draw. Congratulations to our winners, and special thanks to Court16tennis, Council member Katya Geltser, and Cafecommercenyc for their generous raffle prize donations.

As part of our celebration of Pride Month, we met with cornea transplant recipient Yolanda, the former Executive Director of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, a synagogue that supports all sexual orientations and gender identities, for advice about what sorts of things we should be thinking about not only this month, but throughout the year. She shared about the importance of celebrating Pride and making decisions that make you feel good about your identity. Yolanda is grateful to have entered her retirement with renewed vision after receiving cornea transplants in both eyes with donor tissue provided by The Eye-Bank. She now volunteers for our organization, and we are grateful for her compassion and support.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures who bring joy into the lives of their children and loved ones.

Today, Cornea Transplant Recipient Jamal celebrates as a new father. Being able to fully see and experience this day with his family is a gift he attributes to the generosity of his eye donor.

"Being a father has been one of the greatest joys of my life," Jamal said. "Watching my son grow has given me countless moments to cherish. I’ve been blessed to witness so many firsts—his first birthday, first steps, and first words. There was a time when I worried I might never be able to see those milestones. I am deeply grateful that I can experience each of them with my own eyes. This Father’s Day, I celebrate not only being a dad, but also the incredible gift that made these memories possible. I will always be thankful."

You can help fathers like Jamal see again. Sign up today on the New York State Registry to give the gift of sight and life. 💚💙
