We learned that Winnie likes the beach. We thought she would be terrified but she went right in.

We will be open a few Sundays this summer but we’ll mainly be closed for the weekends. Have a great summer!

I’ll share more over the next few days. It’s my way of dealing with grief. I wanted to share Bobo with as much people as possible. He was just so wonderful. To those who met him, I hope you have some good memories of him. Thank you to everyone who pet him and gave him love. I know he appreciated it, even if he may have been asleep. I would encourage everyone to follow a local shelter, share their stories, adopt a senior or foster if you can, perhaps volunteer or make a donation. They’re wonderful organizations and I’ve always had great experiences with all of them. The senior pets hold a special place in my heart. They’re not with us for very long but they leave such a wonderful and lasting impression on your life. If you have any photos or memories of Boulder, please feel free to share. I would love to share them with my family. Thanks again everyone. Please give your pets an extra long hug for me 🥹

His eyes were always so dilated. I would say things like “He’s looking into your soul”, “he has anime eyes” or “he’s already in love with you “.

Some other things we used to say about Boboface:
- you can pet him like he’s yours
- He burns 8 calories a day
- His mom was a walrus and his dad was a sourdough loaf
- He sleeps 25 hours a day
- (When they saw his gold chain) His album is dropping this month

He really was very lazy. I think the 8 calories burned a day was a lofty estimate. When it was time to walk, I alway had to drag him off the couch or out of his bed. If I had to leave work, I made sure to add about 15-20mins because I needed that time to wake him up.

This dog loved to sleep but REALLY loved to sleep on a human. I’ve had many wonderful naps with him while he was with us. He was about 80-85lbs, so if you can imagine being pinned underneath a soft car that farts and snores, then that’s what our naps were like. To be fair, I was responsible for some of those farts and snores, too. And his farts were silent and lethal. A few times, I found Winnie napping near his butt and was worried for her life. At the very least, she may get pink eye for standing in the line of fire (see image). When they napped together, it was cute how they would take turns being the big spoon and little spoon.

His gentleness allowed us to foster kittens in the last year or so. We wanted the kittens to feel comfortable around other animals so that when they entered a new home with pets, it would hopefully be easier for the new owners. Bobo lets the kittens sniff him, walk on him and play with his tail. He didn’t budge. You’d think he was passed out drunk. One of my favorite photos is a black and white kitten sitting on Boulder because it reminded me a Looney Tunes cartoon I used to watch as a kid(see image).

We had a lot of kids and neighbors in Ft Greene who would stop by just to say hi to the dogs. I’m glad Bobo was the first big dog a lot of these kids got to pet. There definitely were some shy kids but it was great to see them build up the courage to pet him. I like to think that he changed a lot of people’s minds about big dogs. (Continued…)

He was gentle with all animals so it was very easy to introduce him to the family. At that time we had 3 cats and Winnie. We were supposed to keep him separate from the others for about 2 weeks but on day 2 or 3, one of our cats snuck into the bathroom where we kept Boulder. I walked in and found them nose to nose, sniffing each other and that was all they needed. He was quiet, slept a lot, never barked, house trained, knew how to catch treats, liked to fetch and wrestle, allowed anyone to remove toys from his mouth, wasn’t food aggressive, and just super easy going. I never had to worry about him around other animals or kids. I used to say he came preloaded with all the software. He was so quiet that patients wouldn’t realize he was there until sometimes after the exam! He’s the chubbiest retired ninja I know. first Halloween in 2023 and I thought he would look good dressed up like a lion. And boy, did he look GOOD! He didn’t look like a dog wearing a lion mane…HE LOOKED LIKE A SMALL LION! It was so much fun walking around Ft Greene Park with him during the Great PUPkin event. Everyone was shocked by Bobo’s costume and wanted pictures of him. I wonder how many pictures of him are floating around from that day ❤️.(Continued…)

I’ll share some stories about Mr Bobohead, so this will be a long post.

In early August, 2023, I saw a video shared by NYC ACC, which is the city’s shelter. I’ve been looking for a big senior American Bully for a while now and this video of Boulder showed up. The video played the song “This Magic Moment” by The Drifters and I will alway associate that song with him. He was a giant chunky beautiful meatball and looked very gentle and I had a feeling he would be a great fit in our family and our office. I was also afraid he would get adopted pretty quickly. I saw the video on Fri night and dragged my family to go meet him on Sat morning. Thankfully he was still available and we got to meet him. I always tell people that within the first 30seconds, I wanted to adopt him and asked, “Where do I sign?”. He was underweight at 65ish pounds and he wasn’t neutered. An added bonus is one of the volunteers helping Bobo was my patient! She got to see Boulder a few times after the adoption and always brought treats for him. It was a very special because I would imagine most volunteers don’t get to see the animals after they’re adopted. ACC was doing a senior adoption event and Boulder was listed as 9yrs old. His adoption was free and we only paid the NYS license fee of $17. But the first weekend he was home, he needed surgery for a stuffed toy he swallowed at the shelter. I joke that he was the most expensive free dog ever. (Continued…)
