AlphaRet works slowly instead of all at once, so you get the benefits without the redness and peeling. Great for sensitive skin, mature skin, or anyone who tried a retinoid before and gave up on it. Come find Cal at the front desk if you need help picking out the right one for you.

Hair loss on a GLP-1 often starts before you see the first signs of shedding.

By the time more hair starts showing up in the shower, on your pillow, or in your brush, the follicles may have already been under stress for months.

Read the full article, “Why Your Hair Starts Falling Out Months Later,” on our Substack for a closer look at why GLP-1-related shedding happens and why protecting the scalp should begin early.

What does the first 48 hours after IPL + fractional laser actually look like?

Here’s a little hour-by-hour look at the skin immediately after treatment and how it begins to settle over the first two days.

Some redness and warmth after treatment are completely expected, and recovery will look a little different for everyone. The most important part? Following your aftercare instructions and giving your skin the time it needs to heal.

Within normal limits doesn’t always mean everything is normal.

One of the earliest signs of perimenopause may not appear in your bloodwork; it may appear in your skin. New-onset hormonal acne, persistent dryness, and changes in skin quality can begin years before hormone panels reflect what’s happening. Listening to symptoms, rather than lab values alone, can make all the difference in protecting skin health early.

Read the full article, Within Normal Limits, on our Substack for a deeper look at the science behind these changes.

What you eat won’t replace sunscreen, but it can help support your skin’s resilience to sun damage. These are some of the nutrients you can prioritise for healthier, more resilient skin.

The filter is bemotrizinol, known internationally as Tinosorb S and in the US as PARSOL Shield. The FDA finalized its approval on June 9, with the order taking effect on August 9, making it the first new active sunscreen ingredient added to the sunscreen monograph since the late 1990s. It is approved at concentrations of up to 6% for adults and children aged six months and older. What makes it noteworthy is that it is photostable, meaning it doesn’t break down throughout the day the way some older chemical filters do, and it has minimal skin absorption. Europe requires sunscreens to provide UVA protection of at least one-third of the labeled SPF, a standard that many American sunscreens have historically not met.

It doesn’t replace zinc oxide. Mineral filters still provide the broadest UVA protection available in the US, remain on the skin’s surface rather than being absorbed, and are still my first choice for melasma, rosacea, and anyone treating pigmentation.
