This is probably the most vulnerable piece I've shared publicly.

I saw my abuser last week. Not in a dream, in person, for the first time in years. And my body remembered everything before my mind even caught up.

Can’t stop replaying it. Can’t eat. Can’t sleep. Checking their Instagram even though it guts you every time. Feeling like you’re losing your mind over someone who “wasn’t even that important” — except they were, and now you can’t trust your own judgment about anything.

If that’s you right now: you’re not overreacting.

What you’re feeling has a name. Betrayal trauma happens when the person you were attached to — someone your nervous system relied on for safety — becomes the source of the pain instead. Your brain doesn’t process that as “a bad breakup.” It can process it a lot like trauma: intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, emotional flooding, shame, a shaken sense of self.

This month, a psychotherapy researcher gave this a clinical name — Acute Attachment Activation — to describe exactly this: your attachment system going into crisis after losing someone you were bonded to, even when they’re still out there, even when leaving them was 100% the right call.

This isn’t a formal diagnosis, and not every breakup does this. But if this is you, it means your reaction isn’t a character flaw. It’s biology.

You’re not broken. You’re not “too much.” Your attachment system got hijacked — and it can heal.

Save this for the 2am spiral. You’re going to be okay.

I thought I was the only one….

So many of us have convinced ourselves that if we just loved harder, tried longer, showed up one more time, the person would finally see what we had to offer. We mistake his “no” for a test we haven’t passed yet instead of an answer. And somewhere in that chase, we hand our worth over to someone who already told us he wasn’t going to hold it.

Your worth was never his to confirm. Someone walking away doesn’t get to decide what you’re worth — and chasing him harder was never going to change that.

I thought I was the only one….
“I thought s*x was something I owed, not something I could ever want.” 💔

“With PTSD due the r that happened when I was around 10. I didn’t think about it often but it has affected my feelings about s*x. I was never able to enjoy it. I thought it was something you had to do for the man. The only time I was able to do it was when I was drinking which came with my alcoholism. No s*xual desire. I still think it’s dirty.”

It’s not a flaw in you. It’s a wound that hasn’t been given the space to heal.

"Although I recognize my worth, I am not sure other people in my life see it."

One of you said this recently, and it's been on my mind ever since.

Years ago, I spent so much time healing my trauma. I felt lighter, warmer, more open. But when I tried to share that with my brother, he said, "I don't see any difference. You seem the same to me." No applause. No party. No certificate. Just me, quietly wondering if any of it counted.

Chasing clarity looks like: → Re-reading his texts for the real meaning. → Asking your group chat to decode him. → Waiting for him to “figure it out” so you can finally exhale.

But when someone wants you, you don’t have to translate them. Clarity isn’t a scavenger hunt — it’s the baseline. 🤍

You’ve read the books. Done the therapy. Rebuilt yourself a hundred times. And you’re still working for crumbs of certainty.

That’s not a you problem. It’s a pattern problem.

A woman who knows her worth doesn’t chase clarity. She becomes it.
