Quite possibly the world‘s first repair on a six week old done under pure local anesthesia in the office setting. Traditionally, we would wait until the child is three or four months old to do this repair safely under general anesthesia. Having the cleft lip makes feeding difficult and creates parental anxiety and anticipation for the repair. I have been fine-tuning and expanding which procedures I can do in children safely and effectively under local anesthesia over the last 11 years. I am proud to now add cleft lip repair in a newborn as another surgical advancement. No pain after the injections baby rested comfortably after being swaddled and fed. 30 minutes procedure time. scar has not fully matured.

Deep plane facelift and lower eyelid lift, 1 year postop results. Many patients ask if I also do cosmetic surgery. Aesthetics is a part of every plastic surgeons training. Our goal for reconstructive cases is to not only restore form and function but also deliver aesthetic excellence. This particular Patient wanted to not look tired and to feel refreshed but without looking like her face was overdone. We thank her for allowing us to use these pictures To demonstrate how a facelift and an eyelid lift could help achieve these goals with a natural result.

Posted with permission: Clefts can cause severe undergrowth of the jaw. Our patient had previous surgery with another surgeon which unfortunately failed. She lived like this for years before gaining the courage to try again with me. Using 3d planning we were able to cut and move the bone permanently restoring facial harmony. It’s never too late to practice self care. Happy 2022 to everyone

Another great day of ear reconstruction. Today we carved a new ear for a child using cartilage from their ribs. (small or absent ear) can be psychologically devastating for kids and it’s wonderful to be able to help them feel better about themselves.

Situations like this really put life
In perspective. This was probably one of
The most difficult reconstructions I have encountered in my career both technically and emotionally. Jeremiah’s face was unrecognizable when I met him. His entire upper lip was gone and his nerves were cut. He had 6 surgeries including a micro surgical transfer of his left wrist tissue and skin to his face, nerve and muscle repairs , skin and mucosa grafts , repair of his trachea ( incredible work dr Joshua Silverman). His recovery is a testament to the resilience of children and his incredible mom who never faltered in her dedication to his recovery. Truly humbled by this experience and proud of Jeremiah. Thank you to all of the staff at Cohens children’s medical center for your dedication to our patients.

In February of 2017, Jeremiah was viciously attacked by his father’s pit bull. CBS2 cameras were there as he was taken away by an ambulance. The dogs were also removed from the home.
