Every step you take begins with an **isometric contraction**.

Before your foot even touches the ground, your nervous system pre-activates muscles throughout the lower limb. These subtle isometric contractions don’t create movement—they create **stiffness**. That stiffness allows your myofascial system to absorb and temporarily store the energy entering your body with each foot strike.

Think of your fascia like a spring.

The more resilient and elastic the system, the more efficiently it can capture that incoming force as **potential energy** rather than allowing it to dissipate as excessive vibration.

That stored energy is then released during push-off, making your movement smoother, more efficient, and less metabolically demanding.

Do orthotics make your feet weaker? 👣

It’s one of the most common questions I get—and the answer is - they can!

Like any medical intervention, orthotics should be prescribed based on the individual. Some foot types simply need additional support to reduce tissue overload, improve alignment, or manage pain. The key is understanding when they’re appropriate and how they’re used.

What I never want is for an orthotic to become a substitute for a stronger, more functional foot.

Not all plantar fasciitis is the same—and that’s where so many treatment plans go wrong.

An **acute plantar fascia injury** should not be treated the same way as **chronic plantar fascial degeneration**.

In the early stages, the focus is calming irritation, protecting the tissue, and allowing the body to move through the inflammatory phase appropriately.
