40 is here. Very fat, very gay, very loved.
What else? Mmm…
I had a crown fall out. My left incisor; I have no immediate plans to fix it. I’ve eaten glorious cake for breakfast for the last three days. Cake for breakfast every day, I say.
My 40th birthday was last Friday. And in 2016, my birthday was on a Tuesday (if you catch my drift). America quite often does some classic America-ing during my birth weeks. Lame.
My shiniest moments of last week were my sessions with the amazing humans I’m so lucky to know and spend time with each week. Heading into Wednesday, I had a lot of anticipatory fear about how to show up as therapist me. But that fear was soon replaced with plain ol’ surrendering to not knowing much of anything except how to be as tenderly present as I can with what I got (one less tooth and lots of cake!)
Four days into my 40s, and I guess I’m feeling more aware. I spent a large chunk of my early-mid 30s not so much, often chasing some unrealistic expectation of myself that felt not mine for choosing. And OHMYGAWD, if you are still working on breaking those intergenerational cycles and patterns, keep going. It’s worth it.
Some moving little nugget hazily came my way this weekend, from who has gotten ADHD lost at this moment. Something like… if we only have each other, we have so much.
I like that.
