Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! My family has roots in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, and I am proud to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and Heart Disease in Indigenous communities. Our heritage is our strength, and protecting the health of our women and families is essential to our future. ♥️🩷A 2024 American Cancer Society report found that American Indian and Alaska Native women had a breast cancer death rate of 20.5 deaths per 100,000 women, compared with 19.4 per 100,000 among non-Hispanic White women. These figures were based on 2018–2022 data. 36% of breast cancers among American Indian and Alaska Native women were diagnosed at a later stage, compared with 29.2% among non-Hispanic White women. Later diagnosis can make treatment more challenging. ♥️🩷Schedule recommended mammograms and discuss your personal risk with your healthcare provider. Know your family history, stay physically active, maintain a healthy weight, and limit alcohol consumption. 🩷♥️Know your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Choose heart-healthy foods, remain physically active, avoid to***co, and take prescribed medications as directed. ♥️🩷This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, honor your roots by protecting your health. Encourage a loved one to schedule a mammogram, and remind your family to check their Breast/Heart health.♥️🩷Follow us ♥️👉🏻 Heart Healthy & Hot ™ American Heart Association Go Red for Women AHA|ASA in New York City AHA | New York State American Heart Association - New Jersey #1
