As we begin planning our next celebration, we're excited to build on that momentum and make an even greater impact.

Incidents like this are devastating reminders that domestic violence can escalate quickly, and that survivors deserve support, safety, and options before a crisis occurs.

As URI CEO Nathaniel Fields shared with Patch: “Create a safety plan. Get your documents together. Be able to think about where you can go for help.”

At Urban Resource Institute, we remain committed to helping survivors and families access the safety, housing, legal support, and healing resources they deserve.

Our hearts are with the loved ones of Mary Golding and all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.

Domestic violence is never just between two people. It leaves children without parents, families grieving unimaginable loss, and communities forever changed.

This devastating case is a reminder that preventing domestic violence requires more than responding after tragedy strikes. Survivors and their families need access to safe housing, counseling, legal advocacy, and community support before violence escalates.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, help is available. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), dial 311 and ask for the NYC Domestic Violence Hotline, or call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

Thank you, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator John Hickenlooper, for advocating on behalf of nonprofits and the communities we serve.

Organizations like URI depend on stable federal funding to provide life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence and families experiencing homelessness. We appreciate your leadership in opposing policies that could disrupt critical support for those who need it most.

Together, we can help ensure essential services remain available for New Yorkers and communities across the country.

Coercive control is a pattern of behaviors used to control, isolate, or intimidate another person. It isn't always physical.

Here are some examples of what it can look like. Recognizing the signs is an important step toward supporting survivors with compassion, believing their experiences, and helping build safer communities where everyone can live free from abuse.

For many survivors, pets are family. They're comfort. They're a source of unconditional love during life's hardest moments.

That's why URI created the People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) program. By welcoming pets into shelter alongside their families, we're helping survivors heal without leaving their companion behind.

Abusers often use technology to intimidate and control survivors.

TAKE IT DOWN Act is an important step forward for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and digital abuse.

No law can erase the harm survivors experience. However, stronger protections and faster removal of abusive content are meaningful steps toward accountability and safety.

This Pride Month, Team URI came together to learn how we can better support LGBTQIA+ individuals experiencing domestic violence and housing insecurity.

We were honored to welcome Raisa Reyes from the Ali Forney Center for an engaging conversation on building LGBTQIA+ affirming spaces through awareness, education, and action.

At URI, we know that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. By continuing to learn about inclusive language, meaningful allyship, and trauma-informed practices, we're strengthening our ability to provide welcoming environments for every survivor and every family we serve.

Thank you, Raisa Reyes and the Ali Forney Center, for helping us continue this important work.

Survivors are human. They have good days and bad days.

Someone's struggles, mistakes, or reactions to trauma should never be used as a reason to doubt what they've experienced.

Believe survivors. Even on their worst days.
