🎇 While the Lunar New Year is a time of international celebration; as a white practitioner of Chinese medicine working in the United States, it’s a great opportunity for reflection.

My love for Chinese medicine runs deep. It’s something that informs everything everything I do from how I move through the world, to the food I eat, to how I interact with people, to how I think about politics.

The line between appropriation and appreciation is razor thin.

Sometimes I get it right. Sometimes I get it wrong. But part of my practice is actively working to keep myself in check. As we close out another year, questions I use to help me reflect on the past year:

❓What were my practices for checking myself?
❓Did I understand the significance and cultural context of my actions and practices?
❓What did I do to support the AAPI community?

Here are some ways I try to keep myself on the side of appreciation:

➡️ Explore the underlying motivation for what I’m doing. Is this something I’m moved to share because I’ve been touched, moved, inspired? Or is it a marketing photo op for the gram?

➡️ When we invest the time to deeply learn, we are much less likely to appropriate. Did I actively search for opportunities to learn from members of the culture? Attend lectures, concerts, and museums? Did I read authors writing first hand accounts?

➡️ Follow TikTok and Instagram accounts of thought leaders, influencers, and folks working in the trenches to share their culture so you can learn. Be mindful of engagement. Ask for permission before simply reposting and assign credit to the content creator who sparked your interest or new knowledge.

➡️ If you can’t donate time, donate money.

➡️ Support small businesses run by original members of a culture rather than buying mass-produced items from big box stores.

There are a bajillion other ways, but these are great first steps.

Here are 9 accounts I love:

❤️Dear lord I LOVE my job!!❤️

Taste of what I’m treating in the office today:

🌱Post surgical scar therapy
🌱Fertility implantation support
🌱Low back pain
🌱Long haul COVID
🌱Endometriosis
🌱Hashimoto’s
🌱GERD
🌱Breast biopsy recovery
🌱Lyme’s disease
🌱Pregnancy support
🌱ILVEN skin disease

I adore treating Hashimoto’s and auto-immune; but damn do I love how almost anything will walk through the front door of private practice. After almost 20 years of doing Chinese Medicine, still hasn’t gotten old.

I know I’ve been radio silent from my end of the social media universe the past year or so. In a lot of ways I feel like I’ve lost 3 years while aging 10.

One of the projects I’ve been slogging away at the past couple years has been the construction and opening of a new office. Losing Bleecker Street Wellness in 2020 to COVID was humbling, enlightening, tragic, and the best thing that could have happened.

✨But life moves on✨

And as a clinician, I need a home for my community. So and I decided to use our resources to rehome ourselves. It’s taken a massive amount of Qi to get us to this place - but we finally started construction on the new office and we’re on target to open in September.

The new office is on E 4th Street in the old Tower Records building - and it’s shaping up to be a little slice of heaven.

And we’re looking for community members to join us! It’s a doorman building, two en-suite bathrooms, separate practitioner area, waiting room, and northern light. Which means lots and lots and lots of plants. 🪴 There are 4 treatment rooms, so it’ll be quiet and sweet. Oh…and did I mention the plants? 🌿

If you know any awesome healers looking for new space…we’re here with open arms waiting to welcome them ♥️

Soooo….summer 2022 is off to an interesting start. Broke my foot (5th metatarsal) walking the dog - as one does. This is the type of break that happens to soccer players, military cadets, or clumsy acupuncturists apparently. I’m booted, on crutches, and doing all the things:

♥️ Ox Bone Pearl Herbs
♥️ Extra Vitamin D
♥️ Daily E-stem (UB64 ➡️ GB42 @ 100 Hz)
♥️ Moxa box at least 3 times a week
♥️ Evil Bone Water a couple times a day
♥️ Physio tape to stay in gentle eversion

There are certain things Chinese medicine does really well - and bone healing is one of them. Patients ask all the time, “can you needle yourself?” My stock answer is, “you can - but it’s like giving yourself a hug. It’s not quite the same.” But bone healing with e-stem is acupuncture on steroids - and I’m grateful to have the knowledge and tools on hand to get back on my feet.

I’ve been getting inquires regarding everything “Sān Fú” early this year - so I’m giving you some quick hit resources to get you started.

➡️ is hosting a meet-up on June 29th from 7pm EST where I’ll be giving an in depth talk on what it is, why we do it, how we do it, how to calculate the dates, historical context, and how to manage patients. Link in Bio 👆🏼

🤨WHAT IS IT? Sān Fú Moxibustion is a Qing Dynasty technique were we tape ground herbs onto acu points during specific days in summer dictated by the Daoist calendar.

❓WHY? The treatment is used to help with chronic lung conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, allergies, and frequent wind attacks, as well as chronic diarrhea and cold hands and feet.

🧐HOW COMMON IS THIS TREATMENT? In China, very common. People will line up for hours on these special dates to receive their herbs. You can do the same treatment other times of year - but the studies show it doesn’t work as well.

🗓WHEN IS IT? We get four dates this year; July 16, July 26, Aug 5th, and Aug 15th.

✴️ WHAT ARE THE POINTS? You can choose whatever points you think are right based differential diagnosis. I use the one’s published by Lorraine Wilcox’s in her San Fu articles and book on moxibustion. 👆🏼Check out the photos to see what they are for each of the days.

🌿WHERE CAN I GET THE HERBS? You can purchase from , or use the link above to check out our two formulas. If you’re able to attend the lecture, I’ll be teaching how to make your own!!

♥️Acupuncture Pantry Staple♥️

I would hand this out like candy if I could. 🍈Watermelon Frost / Xi Gua Shang🍈

This is a powder that’s used for sore throats, gum infections, any “heat” in the mouth.

✨But where it shines is for painful cold sores✨

You know the type. Hot. Painful. Makes it hard to talk or eat.

You can put the powder on a Q-tip and dab it on the hot spot; or if you’re feeling frisky - puff it right onto the affected area. 🌬❄️

Always purchase from a trusted source - in NYC, I have patients purchase from . And check with your practitioner to make sure they don’t have something more tailored for you.

♥️One of the joys of the job♥️

Little montage of sisters that are about three years apart that both made their entrance to Earth with a little AcuLove.

It’s one of the things that keeps me at the helm of private practice - it’s an absolute joy to witness families grow and women who want to become mothers take on that challenge.

🥰Yay for AcuBabies!🥰
