IPA Manhattan Physical Therapy A revolutionary concept in physical therapy. IPA Manhattan provides unparalleled treatment achievin

What is the meaning behind the name Institute of Physical Art? In 1978, Gregg and Vicky Johnson co-founded the Institute of Physical Art (IPA), a post- professional, educational organization and began a career long, professional collaboration focused on the development and teaching of Functional Manual Therapy (FMT). The integrated system of patient care utilizes advanced clinical reasoning and skills to reveal solutions for complex patients, considering more then just rehabilitation or pain reduction. Advance practitioners of FMT are dedicated to the changing the lives of their patients by identifying and facilitating each patient's optimal physical potentials. Since 1978, the IPA has provided advanced training to over 40,000 Physical Therapists worldwide and developed an internationally recognized faculty of over 35 expert clinicians. In 1998, Gregg and Vicky developed one of the most rigorous post graduate certifications within the Physical Therapy profession, the Functional Manual Therapy Certification (CFMT). Since 1998, of the 200,000+ licensed Physical Therapists in the United States, less then 1% has received the distinction of becoming a Certified Functional Manual Therapist (CFMT). Each of our physical therapists at IPA Centers of Advanced Physical Therapy has achieved or is in the process of becoming a CFMT, representing the top 1% in the field of Physical Therapy.

🎉 TEAM UPDATE: Welcome to the Clinic! 🎉

We are thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our physical therapy team! Please help us give a warm welcome to George Malliaros, PT, MSPT, Cert. DN, Cert. SMT, Dip. Osteopractic

Check out his bio below 👇

Where were you born, and what is your living story as it relates to Physical Therapy?
I was born in New York and raised in Athens, Greece. This unique background gave me a global view of healthcare and learning. Early on, I was fascinated by human science. I worked in a research neuroscience lab. There, I co-authored a published paper on brain chemistry. This deep interest in the human body led me to Physical Therapy. I earned my Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the College of Staten Island (CUNY). Today, I hold active licenses in both New York and New Jersey.
Over the past 17 years, I have cared for many different patients. Early in my career, I worked in early intervention. I helped toddlers aged 0 to 3 overcome developmental delays. For the past 15 years, I have practiced in outpatient orthopedic clinics across New York and New Jersey.
I always want to give my patients the absolute best care. Because of this, I never stop learning. I am currently enrolled in a fellowship program with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. I also hold certifications in spinal manipulation, dry needling, and blood flow restriction therapy. My goal is to combine advanced hands-on techniques with modern science. This helps my patients regain their strength, movement, and confidence.

What is your favorite thing about practicing Physical Therapy?
My favorite part of physical therapy is empowering patients to take back control of their health. I love helping them improve how their bodies function every day. I view my role as an educator and a guide, not just a clinician.
Every person has a unique life, job, and injury history. I find it fascinating to learn these individual stories. Truly understanding a patient allows me to build a custom treatment plan that fits them perfectly. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a patient conquer chronic pain. I love helping people avoid unnecessary surgery and return to the activities they love.

Selected Achievements
• Graduated with a Masters in Physical therapy.
• Co-author of published article “Effects of Taurine on Anxiety Like and Locomotor Behavior of Mice” in the Journal of Advanced Experimental Medical Biology.
• Certification in Dry Needling
• Diploma in Osteopractic
• Certification in Spinal manipulation

Where were you born and what has been your living story as it relates to Physical Therapy?

I was born and raised in Italy, where my journey with movement began through dance. I pursued a professional dance career performing in Italy and throughout Europe before eventually moving to New York City to continue dancing and expand my training. Living and working as a dancer exposed me to both the beauty and physical demands of movement, and like many performers, I became familiar with injuries, rehabilitation, and the importance of understanding the body.
Over time my interest in movement expanded beyond performance. I transitioned into teaching dance, Pilates, and yoga, and later became a licensed massage therapist. Working closely with people in these settings deepened my curiosity about how the body functions and how thoughtful rehabilitation can help people return to the activities they love. This ultimately led me to pursue a career in physical therapy.
I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York City, where I further developed my interest in orthopedic rehabilitation, manual therapy, and movement analysis.

What is your favorite thing about practicing Physical Therapy?

What I love most about practicing physical therapy is the connection I build with patients and the opportunity to help them reconnect with their bodies and move with greater confidence. Having spent much of my life studying movement through dance and teaching, I appreciate how meaningful it is when someone begins to move more freely and without pain.
Watching patients regain confidence in their movement and return to the activities they enjoy is the most rewarding part of my work.

Selected Achievements
• Graduated SUNY Downstate Medical Center with a Doctor of Physical Therapy

***Welcome to the team, Davin!***

Davin Kim, PT, DPT, brings a strong blend of clinical skill, curiosity, and patient-centered care to IPA Manhattan Physical Therapy. Born in Gangnam, South Korea, and raised in the United States, Davin’s lifelong fascination with understanding how things work naturally evolved into a passion for helping people restore movement and function.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Stony Brook University before completing his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Long Island University. Davin’s early experience as a physical therapy aide introduced him to the transformative impact of rehabilitation, particularly for individuals living with chronic pain. He quickly recognized that effective care requires both advanced clinical reasoning and genuine empathy.

Davin refined his skills during his clinical training at IPA Manhattan, working under the direct mentorship of the practice’s highly skilled team. Immersed in the Functional Manual Therapy® approach, he gained hands-on experience treating a wide variety of complex conditions and collaborating across disciplines to achieve optimal outcomes. His commitment to professional growth extends beyond the clinic, as he actively pursues continuing education to deepen his expertise and expand his therapeutic toolkit.

Davin’s dedication to his patients is personal as well as professional. One of his most meaningful experiences came when he applied the principles he learned at IPA Manhattan to help his mother regain mobility and improve her quality of life — an experience that reinforced his passion for delivering exceptional, individualized care.

Outside the clinic, Davin enjoys cooking, spending time with his cat, watching UFC, and connecting with friends over video games.
