Missing a back tooth isn’t just a cosmetic issue. It’s a functional one.

When you lose a molar, your bite changes. Many people think, “I’ll just chew on the other side,” but over time that can create a chain reaction of problems.

Constantly favoring one side can:
• Overwork the muscles on that side of your face and jaw
• Contribute to jaw discomfort and uneven wear
• Place extra stress on your remaining teeth
• Affect how your bite functions over time

Dental implants don’t just fill the space, they help restore proper function, allowing your bite to work the way it was designed.

Your smile is important, but so is the way it functions.

When tooth decay progresses too far, there are often only two treatment options left: a root canal to save the tooth or an extraction if the tooth can’t be restored.

The good news? Most cavities are preventable. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, limiting sugary snacks and drinks, and keeping up with regular dental checkups can help stop decay before it reaches that point.

A few minutes of prevention each day can save you from much bigger dental procedures down the road.

Come with me as I check in on everyone around the office!

One of my favorite parts of the day is walking through the practice, catching up with our team, and seeing everything happening behind the scenes.

Here’s a peek into a day at OMD.

This patient came to me wanting to change the shape of her teeth and create a more balanced, aesthetic smile.

After our consultation, we decided on 10 E.max veneers to achieve the result she was looking for.

One of the most important details when delivering veneers is carefully removing excess cement around the margins.

This step can be challenging, but it’s essential for creating a clean, seamless transition between the teeth and gums.

The result is a more harmonious tooth shape and a smile that feels natural, balanced, and happy.

That toothache might not be a toothache at all.

Your oral health and sinus health are more connected than you might think.

The roots of your upper molars sit just beneath the floor of your maxillary sinuses, so inflammation or infection in one area can sometimes affect the other. A dental infection may contribute to sinus symptoms, and what feels like a toothache may actually be sinus related.

This clip is from episode 1 of our newly rebranded and relaunched Not Just a Dentist podcast. In this episode, I break down the mouth-sinus connection and why your mouth is not separate from the rest of your body.

Your medications could be increasing your cavity risk.

Many prescription and over the counter medications can reduce saliva production, leading to dry mouth. Since saliva helps protect your teeth by neutralizing acids and washing away bacteria, a lack of it can increase your risk of cavities.

If you have noticed persistent dry mouth, it is worth reviewing your medications with your healthcare provider or dentist. Identifying the cause is the first step toward protecting your oral health.

Your diet plays a bigger role in cavity prevention than many people realize.

When I talk to patients about preventing cavities, I do not just discuss brushing and flossing. I also talk about nutrition. A high protein, lower carbohydrate diet can help support a healthier oral environment because cavity causing bacteria rely on sugars and fermentable carbohydrates to produce the acids that damage tooth enamel. By reducing those fuel sources and making thoughtful dietary choices, you can lower your risk for tooth decay while supporting your overall oral health.

This clip is from episode 1 of our newly rebranded and relaunched Not Just a Dentist podcast. In this episode, I discuss how your everyday habits, including the foods you eat, influence your long term dental health. Your mouth is a window to your overall health.

Oral health does not exist in isolation. The health of your teeth and gums is closely connected to the rest of your body, which is why preventive dental care is about more than just your smile. Taking care of your mouth is an important step toward protecting your overall health.
