For Sara, welcoming her baby girl, Eleanore, here at Lenox Hill Hospital was an extra special family moment. That's because her OBGYN, Dr. Mariam Wanees, who delivered Eleanore, also happens to be her sister-in-law.

Having known each other since childhood, the two shared a special full-circle moment as Dr. Wanees helped welcome the newest member of their family into the world.

While their lifelong relationship brought an added level of comfort to the delivery room, Sara credits Dr. Wanees' professionalism and expertise for making the experience that much more memorable.

Congratulations to the whole family. 🙌

Through hands-on activities, story time and age-appropriate lessons, children ages 4-8 learn what to expect when their new sibling arrives, how to safely interact with their baby brother or sister and how they can feel confident and excited in their important new role.

Our littlest patients are getting an early start on their love of reading. 🙌📚

Earlier this month, our NICU joined more than 200 hospitals around the world for the Babies With Books International NICU Read-A-Thon.

With books donated by Project Cameron’s Story, our families and staff logged at least 50 reading sessions over two weeks, giving parents another special way to bond with their babies while supporting early language development and a lifelong love of reading.

Every participating family also received a certificate, extra books and a set of diapers to keep storytime going at home. Today and every day, we’re so proud of our little warriors and their families for the strength they show throughout their NICU journey. 🐣

ICYMI: Late last month, our Lenox Hill Hospital team took to the streets of the Upper East Side of Manhattan for the annual 3rd Avenue Festival for a day of connecting with our neighbors and bringing health and wellness resources directly to our community.

With the help of more than 100 employee volunteers, we provided 1,000 bike helmets, 300 flu vaccines, hundreds of blood pressure and vision screenings, health education, connections to care and so much more. A special shoutout to the Auxiliary of Lenox Hill Hospital for their continued support and partnership in making this incredible community event possible.

A cranioplasty is a complex surgical procedure that repairs or reconstructs the skull, helping patients recover and move forward after major brain or skull surgery.

Here at Lenox Hill Hospital, Netanel Ben-Shalom, MD, FNPS, director of our Neuroplastic and Reconstructive Surgery Program, recently performed the program’s 200th cranioplasty.

For Dr. Ben-Shalom, this milestone is a moment of gratitude for the work he and his team have been able to do and, above all, the opportunity to help 200 patients move forward with their lives.

When Erjona found a lump in her breast at just 31, she knew something wasn’t right.

By advocating for herself, she got answers, received treatment at Lenox Hill Hospital and found a care team that truly listened. After a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and fertility preservation, Erjona has gone on to reclaim her strength in an incredible way — as a fitness influencer and bodybuilder inspiring others with her story.

She met with Sharon Rosenbaum Smith, MD, associate chief of breast surgery at Lenox Hill, who didn’t just talk; she listened.

“She made me feel so good and so safe,” Erjona says. “She explained everything patiently. When I left her office, I knew exactly the different options I had.”
