What if surgeons could determine whether cancerous tissue has been completely removed without waiting nearly an hour for results?

Positron emission tomography (or PET scanning) is an imaging technology that helps identify cancerous tissue. Using the Zio intraoperative PET scanner, Brett Miles, DDS, MD, Chair of Head &Neck Surgery, Danielle Scarola, MD, MS, and their teams can analyze tumor tissue directly in the operating room and receive real-time results within minutes—a process that traditionally relied on frozen pathology and often took 45 minutes or longer.

By providing faster, more precise information during surgery, this technology helps surgeons make critical decisions in real time with the goal of improving patient outcomes.

In just 30 seconds, the angiography-based software program determines if revascularization of a coronary lesion is necessary.
