If your teen is grieving right now, this one is for you.
Grief during adolescence is one of the hardest things a family can navigate together. And one of the most common things I hear from parents is "I just don't know what to say."
Here is the truth: you do not have to say the right thing. You just have to stay.
Being present without pressure, validating without fixing, and allowing your teen to grieve in their own way and on their own timeline communicates something more powerful than any advice ever could, that their feelings are valid, and they do not have to perform grief for anyone else.
And if your teen's grief has started showing up as anger, withdrawal, declining grades, or changes in sleep and appetite, please know that those are normal grief responses too.
Paying attention to behavioral shifts, not just emotional ones, is how you know when it might be time to bring in more support.
You do not have to figure this out alone. And neither does your teen.
