The NY Center for The Prevention of Heart Disease The NY Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease is dedicated to preventing heart attacks, strokes

Cardiovascular disease remains our leading health problem in America today. At least 42 million Americans have some form of heart or blood vessel disease. Many have no symptoms; in fact a great many do not know that they could have a life-threatening illness. More Americans will die each year of cardiovascular disease than all forms of cancer combined. Many patients in the U.S are not getting adv

anced cholesterol testing and therefore over 50% of patients with cardiovascular disease are being missed. In addition more than 50% of the time the first symptom of heart disease is a heart attack without chest pain or other symptoms to warn a patient of his/her silent underlying medical condition. We utilize the most advanced cholesterol testing and diagnostic tests to detect those who are at risk.

That treadmill stress test your doctor swears by? Misses the plaques that cause most heart attacks.

The test hunts for severe flow-limiting blockages. Meanwhile, over 60% of heart attacks come from smaller plaques that slip right past detection. Even wilder: positive remodeling lets your artery wall expand outward as plaque builds. Blood keeps flowing. Test says you're fine. Dangerous, inflamed plaque keeps growing, ready to rupture.

You pass the test. Two weeks later you're in the ER. The test measures blood flow during exercise. The actual threat? Weak, inflamed artery walls about to burst. Completely different variables.

Coronary Calcium scores and CT Angiograms show your actual plaque burden. Light years more useful than checking if your heart handles a jog.

What question are you really asking your cardiologist about your risk?

45% of heart attacks happen without chest pain. Silent heart attacks triple your mortality risk, yet most people wave off the real warnings as normal aging.

That relentless fatigue rest won't cure? Heart failure beginning. Breathless after groceries? Circulation collapsing. Unexplained jaw pain, ankle swelling, cold sweats? Cardiac distress signals. Women and diabetics face amplified danger because their nervous systems naturally dampen pain perception. Symptoms flicker on and off, creating the perfect excuse to do nothing while plaque silently strangles arteries.

The actual threat is gradual changes rationalized into oblivion. New persistent symptom with no obvious cause? Talk to your doctor. Dismissing these whispers means permanent heart damage and tripled death risk.

What body signal are you currently explaining away as nothing?

While I do not know the details of his events or care, as a cardiologist it is incredible to me that they could not have prevented Mitch McConnell's recent cardiac event that reportedly caused a cardiac arrest and has left him on a respirator.
With the use of Coronary CT Angiograms, any coronary artery blockages could have been detected and treated with stents if severe, BEFORE a heart attack. Calcium scores are worthless in his age group as they will always be elevated. Electrical studies and prolonged cardiac monitoring detects people at risk for life threatening heart arrhythmia BEFORE they have a cardiac event.

A heart attack occurs when an artery that sends blood and oxygen to the heart is blocked. Fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits build up over time, forming plaques in the heart's arteries. If a plaque ruptures, a blood clot can form. The clot can block arteries, causing a heart attack. Over 60% of the time the first symptom of heart disease is actually a heart attack! The majority of heart attack victims have not had any chest pain or chest discomfort before the event. Call today at 212-717-0666 to schedule a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation to see if you are at risk.
