“It’s just white coat syndrome.”

That phrase can make an elevated reading feel harmless. But white coat hypertension deserves to be taken seriously. 👀

A 2022 study in Hypertension followed people whose blood pressure was elevated only in clinical settings. Even without existing organ damage, white coat hypertension was linked to higher long-term mortality risk and higher rates of developing sustained hypertension and organ damage (PMID: 35191312).

Your body’s response in that chair is telling you something.

Sometimes it’s telling you about anxiety. Health anxiety is real, and I see it in so many of my clients. It rarely comes from nowhere. It grows when you don’t have a clear plan and the science behind your numbers was never fully explained to you. That’s what we need to fix.

I’ve helped people walk into the dentist’s office and see 110/70 on the monitor, matching their home readings. What changed? They became friends with their blood pressure cuff. Regular home readings, paired with a food-first strategy that lowers blood pressure by addressing the underlying pathways driving it, turned a nerve-racking moment into a routine they understood and trusted.

Those home readings do something else, too. They show you and your care team what your blood pressure is actually doing day to day, so a real trend never gets dismissed as nerves.

Confidence comes from fixing the cause, not explaining away the number.

"How do I lower my Lp(a)?"

I hear this question constantly on discovery calls, and I get why. But it's not the most helpful question to be asking. 🧬

Lp(a) levels are 70 to 90% genetically determined. For most people, diet and lifestyle changes won't significantly move that number on their own.

And new research suggests lowering the number alone may not be the answer either. Last month, the Lp(a)HORIZON trial, the first major outcomes study of an Lp(a)-lowering drug, reported that pelacarsen substantially reduced Lp(a) levels but did not reduce heart attacks, strokes, or cardiovascular death. Full data and additional trials are still coming, but the message so far is clear: the environment around Lp(a) matters.

So instead of asking how to lower it, the better question is: how do I prevent Lp(a) from increasing my risk?

Lp(a) is a risk enhancer. It can promote plaque, inflammation, and clotting, and that risk grows when it's paired with other factors that are accelerating plaque formation. So instead of fixating on one number, look at the full picture to address the vascular environment:

🩸 Homocysteine: is it optimal?
🩸 Fibrinogen antigen: has it been checked?
🩸 Blood pressure: where does it sit?
🩸 ApoB: how many plaque-forming particles are circulating?
🩸 hs-CRP and IL-6: what are your inflammation markers showing?
🩸 Blood sugar: is it stable?

When you address these risk factors, you reduce the opportunity for Lp(a) to cause damage. That's how you turn fear into empowerment.

A new study found silent plaque in over half of adults aged 18 to 70, including about 1 in 13 people in their 20s.

Here’s the empowering part. Plaque begins forming long before any symptoms appear, which means there’s a wide window where the right nutrition can slow it, help stabilize it, and protect the arteries you have.

That’s why I don’t wait for symptoms. And it’s why I look well beyond the basic standard lipid panel. The earlier you understand what’s happening in your body, the more you can do about it.

Today, a group of people decided not to wait.

🎉 Optimize kicks off at 12pm ET. For the next 6 weeks, we’re digging into inflammation, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, blood flow, lipids, and the micronutrients your heart depends on. My goal is for every person in this cohort to understand what’s driving their risk and implement targeted, science-based nutrition strategies built for measurable results.

I am so excited to guide them toward optimal heart health and meaningful risk reduction, so they can be proactive in their heart health journey and live their lives to the fullest. 🫀

The people who joined this round came ready. They’re committed, curious, and serious about protecting their hearts, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish in these six weeks.

To everyone starting today: I’ll see you at noon. Here’s to the healthiest version of your heart. 💪

“I didn’t even know this specialty existed until I came across your Instagram account.”

A client told me that after finishing Optimize this July.

She’d had high cholesterol for decades. Decades of elevated numbers, and not one doctor ever suggested she see a cardiac dietitian.

By the end of the program, she said it corrected years of misconceptions. It filled in the gaps no 10-minute cardiology visit ever could. And it gave her real agency over her own heart health.

Then she added that she wishes every person with a cardiac risk factor had access to this kind of education.

So do I.

That’s why I built Optimize. You deserve more than a rushed appointment and a vague “watch your cholesterol.” You deserve to understand what’s actually happening in your body, and exactly what to do about it.

We start tomorrow! DOORS CLOSE TONIGHT!

If you’ve been weighing it, this is the moment to decide. Here's the link before enrollment closes: https://entirelynourished.com/group-coaching

A new pill can lower LDL by 56 to 59%. Even so, the FDA approved it to work alongside diet and exercise, not in place of them.

Lipfendra (enlicitide) is the first oral PCSK9 inhibitor, approved this summer for adults with high cholesterol, including those with familial hypercholesterolemia. Most people in the trials were already taking a statin, and adding this pill brought their LDL down substantially further. For anyone who has worked hard and still can't reach their target, that's meaningful progress. Another tool, and in a daily pill instead of an injection.

A larger trial is still underway to confirm how much this translates into fewer heart attacks and strokes. In the meantime, here's what's already clear.

Some people do need both medication and nutrition, and we need to recognize that. But a medication cannot replace nutrition. And starting meds means nutrition matters more, not less.

Your arteries need nutrients every single day to stay nourished, resist plaque formation, and keep blood flowing well. This pill blocks one pathway. It cannot feed your endothelial lining, lower your inflammation, or give your body what it needs to heal. Some medications can even deplete the very nutrients your arteries depend on, which is one more reason nutrition becomes the foundation, not the afterthought, once you're on treatment.

This is the work we do together inside Optimize: understanding your numbers, building a nutrition strategy around them, and measuring what changes, whether you take medication or not.

My October cohort begins October 16. Here's the link to learn more and sign up: https://entirelynourished.com/group-coaching

She was already working with a dietitian.

She still walked away with an incomplete picture of her own heart health. Not because her dietitian didn't care, but because cardiovascular nutrition is its own specialty.

That's the gap Optimize was built to close.

Optimize is a 6-week live group program for anyone who wants to take charge of their own heart health. Maybe heart disease runs in your family, your latest labs raised questions, or you're recovering from a cardiac event. Wherever you're starting, you'll get the in-depth understanding and actionable strategies you need to protect your heart, without giving up the foods and moments you enjoy. It goes beyond generic advice and restrictive diets, taking a whole-person, science-based approach to the root causes of heart disease.

Inside, you'll learn:

❤️ What's driving your inflammation
❤️ How insulin resistance affects your heart, often years before your blood sugar looks abnormal on standard labs
❤️ How to reduce oxidative stress with targeted nutrition strategies
❤️ How to improve blood flow and blood pressure
❤️ How to optimize your lipids, and why LDL alone isn't the full picture
❤️ The micronutrients your heart needs for a steady, efficient heartbeat

The next cohort starts October 16 with very limited spots left!

The price goes up in 2027, so if you've been waiting for the right time to join, this is it.

You don't have to keep piecing together advice that isn't built for your heart.

Here's the link to join to gain the confidence and a heart health strategy that you understand, can implement, and see measurable results. https://entirelynourished.com/group-coaching

"High blood pressure isn't actually a bad thing."

That was a comment on my recent post about a study linking blood pressure as low as 130/80 to more plaque formation. I was honestly shocked that this would make the misinformation list.

The reasoning drew on fluid dynamics: in a river, slower water drops more sediment, so wouldn't lower pressure in your arteries mean more buildup, not less?

It sounds logical. But it skips over the most important part, which is what elevated pressure does to the artery itself.

When blood pressure stays elevated, it pushes against your artery walls with every heartbeat. That constant force damages the endothelium, the single layer of cells lining your blood vessels. A damaged endothelium becomes more permeable, and that's where apoB-containing particles like LDL can slip into the arterial wall and get trapped.

That's where plaque begins. 🫀

This is basic vascular biology. It's also why blood pressure control is one of the most meaningful levers you have for preventing plaque, not a minor detail to brush off.

I'm sharing this because misinformation rarely sounds wrong. It sounds reasonable, sometimes even scientific. Your best defense is knowing how your body works well enough to spot when a claim doesn't add up.

That's how I work with every person, one-on-one and inside Optimize, my 6-week live group program. Not rules to follow blindly. Every lecture is built on three pillars:

1️⃣ Understand: we open with the causes of heart disease and what drives each one.

2️⃣ Implement: most of our time goes here, on the targeted nutrition strategies that put that understanding to work.

3️⃣ Measure: I advise how to measure your progress so you know you're achieving optimal results.

When you know the why behind every recommendation, grounded in science and nothing else, you can take ownership of your heart health and cut through the misinformation noise.

The next cohort starts October 16 and there are 5 SPOTS LEFT!

Hi, in case we haven't met yet, I'm Michelle 👋

I'm a cardiovascular dietitian, and for the last 14+ years I've helped people lower their cholesterol, regress plaque, get off blood pressure medication, shrink aortic dilations, and avoid stents they were already scheduled for, all through science-based nutrition.

Results that have left even their cardiologists shocked.

Heart health is complex. My job is to take that complexity and make it applicable to your life.

That starts with looking at the whole picture, because plaque doesn't have one single cause. In some people, apoB and LDL are low and plaque still progresses. In others, apoB is high and inflammation is driving it too.

So it isn't about restriction or chasing one number. It's about adding in the right foods and nutrients your body needs for better blood flow, a regular heartbeat, and stronger arteries.

No fad diets. No fear mongering. Just personalized, whole-person care that connects the dots between your labs, your lifestyle, and your risk.

But here's what I care about most: I don't just hand you information and send you off. I give you the same framework I've used with clients for 14+ years, so you can do this for yourself long after the program ends.

Every week, we take one root cause of heart disease and work through it three ways:

🔍 Understand what's happening in your body
🥗 Implement the specific nutrition that changes it
📊 Measure so you know it's working

That framework is exactly why Optimize works.

My next 6-week live cohort kicks off October 16th.

Here's what we work through together:

1️⃣ Inflammation: what's driving it in your diet and lifestyle, the foods that calm it, and the markers that show your progress

2️⃣ Insulin resistance: how to catch it before it shows up on standard labs, and the food choices that keep your blood sugar steady

3️⃣ Oxidative stress: the cooking methods making it worse, and the foods that nourish your antioxidant pathways

4️⃣ Blood flow and blood pressure: the nutrients that keep your arteries open, and how to track the change at home

5️⃣ Your lipids: how to make sense of apoB and triglycerides, and eat in a way that moves them in the right direction

6️⃣ Micronutrients: the ones that keep your heartbeat regular and your heart pumping efficiently

It's everything your doctor doesn't have time to explain in a 7-minute visit, taught live, in a supportive setting with a community that gets it.
