Can PT come to my home? 🏠

Yes. Our licensed physical therapists visit homes across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Training at home means we work on the things you actually do every day: your own stairs, your favorite chair, your bathroom, your hallway, your block.

It's a good fit if getting to a clinic is hard, you're recovering from surgery, or you care for someone who needs extra help. We offer early morning and evening visits 7 days a week, and most patients start within 24–48 hours. Prefer the clinic or telehealth? We do those too. Coverage varies by plan, and our team handles billing.

"No pain, no gain" doesn't belong in rehab. πŸ™…

Rehab shouldn't hurt sharply. Some mild discomfort while you work, the kind that settles by the next day, is usually okay. Sharp pain, or pain that's worse the next morning, is a signal to adjust, not to push through. Steady progress beats gritting your teeth.

Try this: the next-morning check. After your exercises, notice how you feel the next morning. Same or better? Keep going. Worse? Scale back and tell your PT.

Can harder workouts help older adults hold on to muscle?

A study in Maturitas from the University of the Sunshine Coast followed 123 healthy older adults, average age 72, through 6 months of supervised gym training three times a week. High-intensity intervals, moderate and low-intensity exercise all led to modest fat loss, but only the interval group kept its lean mass. The researchers note the changes were small and that the scans measured lean tissue, not strength.

What it means for you: effort matters, and it can be built up safely. Intervals aren't for everyone, so if you're inactive or have a health condition, build up gradually and get guidance first. Our physical therapists can help you find the right level, at home or in the clinic. Talk to your PT or doctor before changing your routine.

Your broken bone still gets this 4,500-year-old fix. 🏺

Pull it straight. Splint it. Wrap it in linen. That was fracture care in ancient Egypt, and about 9 in 10 of the pyramid builders' broken bones healed in good alignment.

What they missed: the weeks after. Holding still weakens muscles and stiffens joints, and that's the part physical therapy rebuilds. Motion first, then strength, then real life. 🦴

Your bones aren't just a frame. They're alive, and they get stronger when you use them. 🦴

Bone is living tissue that's constantly renewing itself, and it responds to the load you put on it. Walking up the subway stairs, carrying groceries home, strength exercises and balance work all send the signal to stay strong. On World Osteoporosis Day: walk, lift, balance, repeat. If you have osteoporosis, a PT can help you choose the right moves.

Weak bones don't mean skip strength training. 🦴

Happy World Osteoporosis Day. Strength and weight-bearing exercise help maintain bone: when muscles pull on bone, it's a signal to stay strong. Balance work keeps you steady on stairs and sidewalks. The key is starting light and building steadily, with the right moves for you.

Try this: heel raises at the counter. Stand tall with hands lightly on the counter, rise onto your toes, lower slowly. 2 sets of 10–15.

If you have osteoporosis, ask your PT or doctor which moves suit you, since some bending and twisting movements may need adjusting.

Could how you walk ease knee arthritis pain? 🚢

In a year-long randomized trial from the University of Utah, published in The Lancet Rheumatology:
β€’ 68 adults with mild to moderate arthritis on the inner side of the knee took part
β€’ Each person learned a small, personalized change in foot angle (toes turned in or out 5–10Β°), chosen in a lab
β€’ Pain eased by 2.5 points out of 10, compared with 1.3 with a sham version

It's early research: a small study, and the results may not apply to advanced arthritis. Researchers caution that changing your foot angle without an assessment could add stress to the knee for some people.

What it means for you: don't change your walk on your own. A PT can assess how you walk, what's loading your knee, and build a plan that fits you. Talk to your PT or doctor before changing your routine.

It's not lactic acid making you sore 🀯

Sore two days after a new workout, or after a day of walk-ups and subway stairs? Here's what's really going on:

β€’ Lactate clears from your blood within about an hour of exercise, and your body reuses it as fuel
β€’ Delayed soreness comes from tiny strains in muscle fibers and the repair process that follows
β€’ Lowering moves (walking downstairs, sitting into a chair) trigger it most, because your quads work as brakes
β€’ Repeat the same workout and you'll usually be less sore. That's the repeated bout effect

Try this: a 10-minute easy walk, 10 slow sit-to-stands, and 15 calf raises holding a counter. Normal soreness fades in a few days. See a doctor if it lasts over a week, the muscle swells, or your urine turns dark.

Q: What happens at a first PT visit?

A: We talk about your history, what hurts and what you want to get back to. Then we check how you walk, bend, reach and balance, along with strength and range of motion. You'll leave with a clear plan and a few exercises to start at home.

What to bring: comfortable clothes you can move in, a list of your medications, and any imaging reports you have. We can come to your home, see you in the clinic, or meet by telehealth, and our team handles billing.

Heat or ice for a fresh sprain? 🧊

Short answer: in the first couple of days, a cold pack wrapped in a towel for 10–15 minutes can help ease pain. Skip heat early on. Save warmth for later, when stiffness is the bigger issue. Keep the joint gently moving as pain allows, since total rest can leave it stiffer.

Get it checked if you can't put weight on it, the swelling is severe, it looks out of shape, or it isn't improving after a few days. A PT can help you get back to stairs, walks and sports safely.
