I consider myself lucky to get one chief for a case and I got two for this one. AND Gabriela the best vascular OR nurse and scrub anyone could have. Dr. David Roberge and Dr. Ben Dixson are going into Trauma and Vascular, respectively, in the summer, trying to pad their open experience before graduation.

Carotid thrombus and carotid web, high lesion in a symptomatic patient. A carotid web is shelf of intima usually opposite the external carotid artery at the bulb where thrombus can form. This is an uncommon cause of stroke. First is a ct scan saggital view of the thrombus. Second is a review of exposure of high carotid lesions. Third is the intra operative photo of the thrombus inside the opened carotid artery. 4th is with structures labeled and 5th is after the thrombus was removed demonstrating the thickened intimal shelf or web. This was wedge resected from the artery and sent to pathology. The artery was repaired with a bovine pericardial patch for the resected area and a patch for the arteriotomy.
