🏐 Bump, Set, LIGHT! ☀️

First State Orthopaedics was proud to be a sponsor of the 6th Annual Bump, Set, Light Volleyball Tournament in Dewey Beach this past weekend!

What started as a day of volleyball, competition, and fun on the sand is about something so much bigger: bringing light to youth mental health. 💛

Established in memory of Sean Locke, the tournament supports SL24: UnLocke the Light Foundation, whose mission is to educate, assist, and support young people navigating mental health challenges. Through programs like Sean’s House and Sean’s Rooms, SL24 provides young people with safe spaces, peer support, resources, and connections when they need them most.

This year’s tournament also helps pave the way for Sean’s House Sussex, a new mental health safe haven opening this fall to serve young people throughout Sussex County.

We’re proud to stand alongside the SL24 team and the incredible Delaware community working to remind young people that they are never alone, it’s okay to ask for help, and there is always a light to be found. 💛

Thank you to everyone who helped make this incredible day possible—and to SL24 for continuing to turn community, compassion, and connection into meaningful change.

Welcome to First State Orthopaedics, Dr. Abhishek Kumar! 👏

We’re excited to introduce Dr. Kumar and expand our services with the addition of musculoskeletal embolization and interventional radiology. Dr. Kumar will be offering Genicular Artery Embolization (G*E), a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure designed to help patients suffering from chronic knee osteoarthritis pain who have not found relief through injections, physical therapy, or medication.

G*E offers a non-surgical treatment option for patients looking to delay or avoid knee replacement surgery by targeting the inflammation that contributes to chronic knee pain. Performed on an outpatient basis, the procedure requires no incisions, no general anesthesia, and no overnight stay.

"I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Zaslavsky and the team at First State Orthopedics. For more than 10 years, I lived with chronic lower back pain that affected my sleep, work, fitness, and overall quality of life. Dr. Z took the time to listen, never rushed to surgery, and helped me explore every option before determining that an ALIF procedure was the best path forward.

Seven months to the day post-surgery, and with plenty of hard work in physical therapy, I completed the Mammoth March as a personal goal - a challenging 20-mile/8 hour hike through 1,850 ft of elevation in forest and dirt trails. I only wanted to give it a shot, but I completed it!
