New TB drugs are coming through the pipeline, but whether they reach the people who need them depends on decisions made long before rollout. A Target Access Profile (TAP) sets out, in advance, what developers and other stakeholders must do so that new drugs actually reach patients. We want those priorities shaped by the people most affected.
As part of the COMBAT DR-TB consortium, the Center for Global Health Policy & Politics at Georgetown University is inviting community members and civil society to complete the People’s Target Access Profile (TAP) survey.

Only 54% of people diagnosed with TB in 2024 got a WHO-recommended rapid molecular test as their first test. Cost is a big part of the reason.

Pooled testing helps close that gap. In the STOP TB-led pooling testing evaluation in Start4All, which enrolled more than 14,000 people across 7 countries, pooling sputum on Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra cut test use by 51%. This evidence formed the core of the 2026 WHO recommendation to pool up to four specimens.

The team at RePORT India has done it again! They have shown moreover how undernutrition and diabetes have a profound effect on TB treatment outcomes. It’s a wrap! The 10th RePORT International Annual Meeting themed, “Discovery to Impact: Celebrating Global Collaboration in TB Science” ended with much shared knowledge about diagnostics, treatment outcomes, transmission, vaccines, biomarkers, and host-directed therapy. And we talked nutrition - "a bread-and-butter approach" as one speaker called it! This was a wonderful opportunity to gather with great minds, old friends, and colleagues. We look forward to heading home and putting the tools we have gathered to work!

Dr. Tim Sterling from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Co-Principal Investigator (PI) of RePORT Brazil and RePORT South Africa, and Multi-PI of the RePORT International Coordinating Center, and Dr. Jeff Tornheim from Johns University and PI in RePORT India spoke in the SEATRAC Advanced TB Training about the value of the RePORT International Consortium and observational research. They participated in a panel on research networks, particularly in investigating new and repurposed drugs in the treatment of drug-resistant TB.
