One of the most rewarding parts of pediatric therapy is getting to celebrate milestones, both big and small, alongside children and their families. 💙

From gaining confidence in everyday tasks to reaching goals that once felt impossible, it’s the little moments of progress that make this work so meaningful.

Here are a few things our therapists had to say about the most rewarding part of helping kiddos thrive every day.

We are endlessly inspired by the children, families, and therapists we work with, and feel so grateful to be part of such a supportive and compassionate community.

If brushing teeth is a battle every night… try this first 🪥💙

For many children, tooth brushing can feel overwhelming because of the sensation, sound, texture, or unpredictability. Starting with playful, low-pressure exposure can help make the experience feel safer and more familiar over time.

Try:
✔ brushing dolls or toys first
✔ using an electric toothbrush on arms/hands
✔ making it part of play instead of a rushed routine

Small steps and gradual exposure can make a huge difference in building comfort and confidence. ✨

Transitions can feel overwhelming for many children throughout the day 💙

Visual schedules help create predictability, reduce anxiety, and support smoother transitions between activities by helping children understand what comes next.

Sometimes a little structure can make a BIG difference ✨

Why do OTs actually LOVE broken crayons? 👀

Tiny crayons naturally encourage children to use a tripod grasp, helping support the finger positioning needed for handwriting development without constantly correcting their grip. 💙

So before you throw away those broken crayons… you may want to keep them around 😉

Nothing says summer like a cold Rita’s treat after a long day of helping kiddos grow, learn, and thrive 💙

This week, we surprised our amazing OT & PT team with Rita’s on a hot day as a small thank you for all they do for the children and families we serve every single day.

We’re so grateful for a team that brings compassion, patience, and creativity into every session. 🍧🫶

The best team deserves the best treats. 😎

For kids constantly kicking their chairs at school… this simple trick might help 💙

Adding a resistance band around the legs of a chair gives children a safe, quiet way to move their feet throughout the day while still staying engaged in the classroom.

For many children, movement can actually HELP with focus, regulation, and attention… not distract from it. ✨

Easy classroom support like this can make a huge difference for both students and teachers.

Save this idea for later or share with an educator who may want to try it!

Words matter, especially during harder moments. 💙

Sometimes small shifts in language can help children feel more understood, supported, and regulated instead of overwhelmed or shut down.

No parent or teacher gets it perfect all the time (and that’s okay). The goal isn’t perfection… its connection. ✨

Which one stood out to you most?

If your kiddo needs extra support using utensils at the table, try this first!

From an OT/PT perspective, this activity helps with:
🖐️ Hand strength & coordination – pushing down and controlling the knife
🎯 Bilateral coordination – using both hands together (one stabilizes, one cuts)
👀 Hand-eye coordination – guiding the tool where they want it to go
💡 Motor planning – learning the steps it takes to cut through different textures
For children with disabilities, practicing with soft materials can make the experience less frustrating and more successful, building confidence before transitioning to real food.

Try this at home and switch up the textures to keep it fun!

At OPT, it’s more than just a job… it’s a team that truly supports each other 🤍

Here’s what some of our team had to say about being part of OPT:

We believe that when therapists feel supported, they’re able to give their absolute best to the children and families they work with 💙

Interested in joining a team like this? We’d love to connect.

If your child HATES writing… try these fun alternatives:

✨ Writing in shaving cream
✨ Drawing in sand or salt trays
✨ Using chalk on sidewalks
✨ Painting with brushes or water

These activities build the SAME foundational skills needed for writing, just in a way that feels fun and pressure-free 🙌

Less frustration = more confidence = better long-term progress
Save this for later!

Does your child avoid writing tasks? Let us know what you’re seeing at home 💙
