Today we're thinking about every person in our community who has heard the words "you have cancer."

To our survivors: you've taught us about courage, patience, and the kind of strength that doesn't always look like strength. Some days it looks like showing up to one more appointment. Some days it looks like ringing the bell. Some days it just looks like making it to tomorrow.

To the families walking alongside someone in treatment right now: you matter too. We see you.

And to those carrying the memory of someone you've lost: we're thinking of you today, too. Your loved one is part of this day. They always will be.

To our oncology team and everyone at Newberry Health who walks this road with our patients and families: thank you for the way you show up, day after day, through every kind of outcome.

Most cardiac arrests happen at home. That means the first responder isn't always in a uniform. Sometimes it's a spouse, a coworker, a neighbor, or a teenager.

This CPR & AED Awareness Week, Newberry Health wants you to know: You need about 90 seconds of knowledge and the willingness to act to save a life.

How to spot cardiac arrest:

-The person collapses suddenly and is unresponsive
-They're not breathing, or only gasping
-No pulse

Hands-only CPR:

1. Call 911 (or have someone nearby call)
2. Place the heel of your hand in the center of their chest
3. Push hard and fast, about 100 to 120 compressions per minute
4. Don't stop until help arrives
