Knowledge is a powerful first step toward cancer prevention and early detection.

Natalie Godbee, D.O., recently joined members of New Mountain Top Church Community for Raising Awareness, Transforming Outcomes, an event designed to bring trusted cancer education directly to women and families in Windsor, Carrollton and surrounding Georgia communities.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about cancer screenings, preventive testing and cancers affecting women—and had the opportunity to ask questions directly to a City of Hope expert.

“Going out into the community gives us the opportunity to connect, educate and empower people with knowledge about cancer. Events like these are so important because they raise awareness, answer questions, and encourage individuals to take steps that can lead to earlier detection, better outcomes and healthier lives,” Dr. Godbee shared.

With a sole focus on cancer and the collective expertise of more than 2,000 physicians and researchers, City of Hope Atlanta is committed to extending lifesaving knowledge and specialized care beyond our walls and into the communities we serve.

"To good health and getting rid of that cancer bug!"

With those words, Rachelle Gardner swallowed her first dose of daraxonrasib at City of Hope Chicago: three small pills that have given her what she calls "a new sense of hope."

Rachelle has been facing pancreatic cancer since 2023. After chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, and after learning her treatment options had become limited, her City of Hope care team helped her access daraxonrasib, an investigational therapy, through an FDA-authorized expanded access program.

Daraxonrasib is still under FDA review, but results from a pivotal phase 3 clinical trial found that patients with previously treated pancreatic cancer who received it survived nearly twice as many months as those who received standard chemotherapy.

Rachelle is now among the first eligible patients at City of Hope Chicago to receive it.

Her hope? More time for road trips and new restaurants with her fiancé. More time to teach. More time with her sons, grandnieces and grandnephews. More time for life.

When Sara Glenn was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38, she soon learned that her diagnosis was part of a much larger family story.

Genetic testing revealed that Sara has Li-Fraumeni syndrome, an inherited condition caused by a TP53 gene mutation that significantly increases the risk of developing several types of cancer. Her father, who has lived with multiple myeloma for 17 years, and both of her young daughters were also found to carry the same mutation, meaning every generation of their family is now navigating this shared risk.

For Sara’s family, knowledge has become a powerful tool. Through genetic testing, ongoing screenings and specialized care, they can better understand their risks and take proactive steps toward earlier detection.

A cough that wouldn’t go away changed Heather’s life.

After months of worsening symptoms, the busy mom of two learned she had stage IV lung cancer. At City of Hope, genetic testing helped identify a mutation and guide a personalized treatment plan.

Today, Heather continues treatment while working, cheering at her sons’ baseball games and staying present for the moments that matter.

This World Lung Cancer Day, her story reminds us that lung cancer can affect younger adults and people without typical risk factors—and that every person’s experience with stage IV cancer is different.

“Stay on the path,” Heather said, “because the longer you stay with it, the more advancements there will be.”

At age 36, Onjalai Brown faced divorce, job loss, eviction and a breast cancer diagnosis. All in a single year.

It was one of the most difficult chapters of her life and ultimately, the beginning of a new purpose.

“My greatest asset is hope. And it’s priceless.”

Onjalai came to City of Hope for a second opinion where she found a care team committed to supporting her every step of the way.

Jeff and Kat were just weeks away from their wedding when Jeff, then 33, was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. They put their plans on hold and came to City of Hope looking for answers, where a dedicated care team quickly built an aggressive treatment plan that included a clinical trial to give Jeff the best chance at recovery.

As Jeff went through months of chemotherapy, Kat stepped into the role of caregiver, advocate, and organizer. After a month of treatment, they decided not to wait to get married. Their wedding took place over Zoom.

In January of this year, with treatment behind him and recovery underway, Jeff and Kat were finally able to celebrate in the way they had once imagined, renewing their vows in Puerto Vallarta surrounded by the people they love.

We’re grateful to share Jeff and Kat’s story and the role City of Hope played in helping them start their next chapter together.

When Jennifer M. joined City of Hope, she believed in the care our teams provided. She never imagined she would one day experience it herself.

At just 40 years old, Jennifer was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer after trusting her instincts that something wasn't right. She transferred her care to City of Hope, where a compassionate team helped guide her through surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and reconstruction always putting her needs first.

Today, Jennifer is approaching eight years with no evidence of disease and serves as our Cancer Fighters Loyalty Manager, helping other patients navigate their own journeys with empathy that can only come from lived experience.

Her message to every woman is simple: "Go with your gut. Get your answers. Follow through, even if it's scary."

Jennifer, thank you for sharing your story and for bringing hope to our patients every single day. 💙🥊
