This is one of the most common questions I get.
Patients come in convinced that their neck is the problem because that's where they notice loose skin or fullness. But in many cases, the neck isn't the only area that's aging.
The face and neck age together.
As we get older, the cheeks, jawline, and surrounding tissues gradually descend. Over time, that tissue settles into the neck, which is why the neck often looks like it's aging first—even though the changes actually started higher up.
That's why an isolated neck lift isn't the right procedure for most patients.
If I only tighten the neck without addressing the face, I'm treating the symptom instead of the cause. The result can look unbalanced because the face and neck are no longer aging—or being rejuvenated—together.
There's also an important surgical reason.
The face and the neck are lifted in different directions. The face requires a more vertical lift, while the neck is lifted along a different vector. Trying to correct both by only treating the neck limits how much improvement you can achieve and can even create tension in areas where you don't want it.
The goal isn't to create a perfectly tight neck.
The goal is to create a natural result where your face, jawline, and neck all look refreshed and harmonious together.
That doesn't mean everyone needs a facelift.
Some patients truly are great candidates for an isolated neck lift. But that decision isn't based on what bothers you the most—it's based on your anatomy and what's actually causing the concern.
The best procedure is never the smallest procedure.
It's the procedure that gives you the most natural, balanced, and long-lasting result.
