If you’re struggling with weight loss, constant cravings, low energy, or blood sugar issues despite making healthy choices, leptin resistance and insulin resistance may be playing a bigger role than you realize.
These two conditions often go hand in hand.
Insulin helps move glucose out of the bloodstream and into your cells for energy. When cells become resistant to insulin, the body has to produce more and more of it to keep blood sugar under control.
Leptin is the hormone that tells your brain you have enough stored energy. But when leptin levels stay elevated for too long, the brain can stop responding appropriately to its signal. This is known as leptin resistance.
The result? Your body may continue acting as though it needs to store energy, even when there is already plenty available.
In my practice, I often see leptin resistance and insulin resistance occurring together. Elevated insulin encourages fat storage, while leptin resistance makes it harder for the body to recognize when it has enough energy. Together, they can create a cycle of increased hunger, cravings, stubborn weight gain, difficulty burning fat, and metabolic dysfunction.
The good news is that nutrition and lifestyle strategies can help improve both leptin and insulin signaling. When these hormones begin communicating more effectively, many people notice improvements in energy, appetite regulation, cravings, blood sugar balance, and overall metabolic health.
Sometimes the issue is not a lack of willpower. It is that your hormones are sending the wrong messages.
