GLP-1s mimic the hormone your gut releases after eating to slow stomach emptying, quiet brain food noise, and improve blood sugar control. Tirzepatide goes a step further by mimicking a second hormone (GIP), with clinical trials showing average weight loss of 15% for semaglutide and up to 20% for tirzepatide.

Night sweats and sleep disruption trigger a cascade effect on your metabolism—increasing hunger hormones, driving cravings, and draining the energy needed for exercise. If your body is changing even though your diet and workout haven't, you are experiencing a metabolic shift.

The menopause transition changes where fat is stored, shifting it toward the midsection as metabolically active visceral fat that wraps around organs. This shift—combined with muscle loss, insulin resistance, and rising cardiovascular risks—means menopause isn't just about fitting into your jeans, but protecting long-term health.

Estrogen receptors exist in your brain, bones, heart, muscles, skin, and fat tissue—so when levels shift, it affects nearly everything. From sleep disruptions and brain fog to joint aches and changes in body composition, these symptoms are driven by real biology, not a lack of willpower.

NAD+ stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is a coenzyme found naturally in your cells. It helps transfer electrons in the reactions that turn food into usable cellular energy.

That biological role is well established. The benefits of taking NAD+ are a separate research question.

Much of the human research studies precursors, substances the body can use to make NAD+, rather than NAD+ itself. Some trials show changes in blood NAD+ levels. That does not establish better energy, slower aging or a longer life. Studies are often small and short, and long-term benefits and risks remain uncertain. Findings about one precursor or delivery method cannot simply be applied to another.

If you are curious about healthy aging or considering a supplement, a licensed provider can help you weigh the evidence and your health history. Persistent fatigue deserves an evaluation, not an assumption that you need NAD+.

If weight loss is part of your plan, muscle deserves a place in the conversation.

Build meals around a protein food you enjoy, such as eggs, beans, tofu, fish or yogurt. Make strength training part of your week at a level that fits your ability. Keep a regular bedtime and leave room for rest.

These are habits to discuss alongside your goals, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Ask your care team how to adapt food and movement to your health needs.

Q: Do I need to have my health routine figured out before a consult?

A: No. Start with what life looks like now. Share your goals, health history, usual meals, movement and sleep. Bring your questions, including what has felt hard to maintain.

A licensed provider can review that information with you and discuss appropriate next steps. You do not need a perfect routine to begin the conversation.

Does metabolism suddenly slow down after 40? The research tells a more nuanced story.

Energy use, adjusted for body size and composition, can stay fairly stable through much of adulthood. A birthday alone does not explain every change you notice.

Muscle, movement and daily routines deserve attention too. Bring new or unexplained changes to a licensed clinician rather than assuming age is the whole answer.

Weight loss might end up being the least interesting part of the GLP-1 story. Researchers are actively studying how these medications affect fatty liver disease, neurological health, mood, and reduced cravings for alcohol and other substances by targeting reward pathways in the brain.
