How many eggs do you actually need for IVF? It's one of the most common questions we hear, and the answer usually surprises intended parents who've been through their own IVF cycles.

A 2024 study, the largest of its kind, found it typically takes about 4 mature eggs from a donor under 35 to reach one genetically normal embryo. Using your own eggs at 43? That number climbs to around 40 eggs.
