Please give a warm welcome to Ms. Jessica Neese! Jessica joins the Hampton Roads Dyslexia Center team with a strong foundation in literacy instruction and a passion for helping young readers thrive. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology and her Master's degree in Elementary Education from Christopher Newport University.
Jessica holds a current Virginia elementary teaching license and previously taught in K-3 classrooms in Newport News Public Schools. She currently serves as a Newport News District Literacy Tutor, where she focuses on building the reading and writing skills of elementary-aged readers.
She is trained in LETRS 1 and 2, as well as UFLI Foundations, and enjoys working with emergent readers on phonemic awareness, high-frequency word recognition, decoding and encoding, fluency, and comprehension. Jessica believes education should be tailored to meet each individual's specific needs, and she takes joy in recognizing and celebrating her students' growth.
Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and one-year-old son, adventuring with her two boxers, riding horses, and watching movies.

I often remind parents and teachers that even with intensive evidence based intervention, the growth may seem incremental day by day, lesson by lesson. It is not always linear.
